This mug is beautiful and comes with a lot of love. The mix of colors and textures is rustic, hip and warm. It's microwave and dishwasher safe. I gave it as a birthday gift to a friend who loves it. Marie was responsive, considerate and went above and beyond. Thank you!

A life spent up to my elbows in clay.

I opened my shop in August 2011 with just a handful of work, lots of enthusiasm & some high hopes that I could sell a few pieces in this vast & wonderful marketplace called Etsy. With my dream ceramic home studio up & running it meant I could finally fully settle into my Florida life after moving from the UK & establish my work here in the USA.
I am a huge advocate of 'fair trade' & love Etsy! I am in awe of all the artists, crafters & vintage sellers, where else is there such an amazing variety of items available? whatever the heart desires it can be found here!

My journey in the world of ceramics began in 1986 when I applied for a position as a potters apprentice at Haseley Manor pottery Studio, on the Isle of Wight, England. I always wanted to work with clay after being introduced to this wonderful medium in High School but somehow ended up taking Graphic Design as my Art elective as I also love to draw & paint. Thankfully, I got the position & that is where this lifelong passion began.

Haseley Manor Pottery was a small village studio in rural England with just a handful of artists led by local potter Krystyna Young. I served a traditional apprenticeship which meant starting at the bottom & working my way up, eventually becoming Chief Decorator for my skills with a paintbrush. Krystyna Young took me under her wing & gave me a solid foundation from which my entire working life has been heavily influenced & still serves me today. Sadly, she passed away in 1990 & the studio closed. I am eternally grateful for her teachings of both pottery & life.

After leaving Hasley Manor life took a new twist when I had became interested in Occupational Therapy. I took up a position teaching Ceramics/pottery as a therapeutic activity for people suffering from acute mental illness. This meant I had less time for my own work but I loved this job & the people I met, both staff & patients who opened my eyes to the plight of those suffering from mental illness. It was both challenging & rewarding for the 8 years I spent there, taught me about compassion & showed me the therapeutic value of art/pottery as a tool for healing. Around this time I found my other passion, which is Yoga! I was lucky enough to assist the Yoga Teacher who came to work with our patients & I saw first hand how it helped them to become more relaxed, insightful & spiritually connected with themselves. Yoga practice has been a part of my life ever since & always will be.

After having my daughter, moving away & being a Mom for four years I was ready to get back to work. My next position was Art & Ceramics technician at a prestigious, private Liberal Art School in Surrey, England. Frensham Heights School was an incredible place to be, it is a beautiful historic stately building set in many acres of rural England. It also has the most extensive Arts program I have ever seen in any school, with all areas of the creative arts represented & considered equal to all academic subjects. It has a very refreshing progressive philosophy & I loved working here. The teachers are all accomplished artists themselves, the atmosphere is nurturing & highly creative.
It was here that I took my work to the next level as I had free reign to use the studio's, equipment & facilities any time they were not in use. The students at the school were truly an inspiration, It is the greatest gift to share knowledge & teach students, 'pass it on' is my philosophy.

A new chapter began in 2005 when we moved to Florida & this is when I decided to go it alone. It has taken time & unfaltering faith to accomplish my dreams but worth every second. In 2011 I took the 200 hour Yoga teacher training & this is what set my creativity free. That same year I penned a poem describing my beautiful relationship with Yoga & pottery. I entered the poem in a competition organized by a charity called 'One common Unity' which is an organization dedicated to bringing art & yoga programs to youths from deprived inner city areas. My poem was selected to be published in the book "The poetry of Yoga" volume 2 in 2012. All proceeds from book sales go the help young people to stay off the streets & become involved in the arts. I am proud to be a part of this & it is close to my heart.

Pottery is Yoga

The many gifts of inspiration
flowing creativity through body & mind
energy from these hands
fingertips knowing how hard to press
opening possibilities
we are partners in the creative dance
taking on new form
ever evolving, courageous & joyful
daring to go further yet mindful
seeing no boundaries
no cluttered thoughts
bound together
the earth & me.
