Magical One-of-a-Kind Hand-dyed Silk

I hand-dye silk with plants, flowers, sawdust and earth. Sometimes I use a paintbrush, metals and objects to create and modify patterns. I value the health of our planet and never use synthetic dyes or toxic mordants.

I was a graphic designer in Madison, Wisconsin for many years and though graphic design can be creative I missed the mystery that unfolds when playing with paint and other mediums. The dyeing process encourages a playfulness that feeds my soul. Using plants and earth in the process feeds my spirit.

The plant world inspires and nurtures me. I love observing and working with plants, and have always been in awe of the colors that nature graces us with. To transfer these colors onto fabric without using chemicals that harm the earth is a gift that I’m excited to share.

I love the unpredictability that each piece presents. Each scarf or garment is a new adventure, and as the colors and patterns unfold, I await with anticipation as I unveil and discover the beauty found within each unique piece.

Each piece tells its own story. Even when using the same plants, the results vary. I have come to believe that the minerals in the soil that each plant grows in will affect the color that arises in the final product.

I started making scarves for fun and as gifts. I have always appreciated handmade things: the time, effort, creativity and care that they embody. This natural dyeing process creates one-of-a-kind pieces and the unveiling is truly magical. I feel fortunate to be able to produce something of beauty that others appreciate.

Thank you for visiting my shop!

I am always looking for creative ways to use a scarf. Check out my pinterest page:
