About

The simple things.

Good day! I’m Deanna, the maker of all of these things. I live in a small apartment next to a river with my husband Joel. I’ve been an artist and crafter since birth, I believe, and some of my earliest memories involve scribbling all over the dining room table (and then pooping my pants underneath that same table). I hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Art, my specific areas of expertise being drawing and fibers.

I love painting, knitting, dyeing fabric, batiking, drawing, and dripping wax all over everything in our home. I’m a fiber lover at heart, and am drawn to muslin, that humble cotton, which I use for batiking quilt tops, napkins, coasters, and wall hangings. (Batiking is an ancient method of dyeing fabric using wax as a resist to create layer upon layer of color.)

All of the bits and bobbles for sale here are original pieces handmade by me. I use an eclectic mix of found and salvaged materials as well as new supplies. I’m most inspired by nature’s organic and abstract way of growing and forming, and I gather and collect everything and anything that appeals to my eyes or fingertips.

Welcome. If you’ve read this far, you deserve some sort of prize- go make yourself a nice cup of tea or take a walk underneath some trees. Then come back and enjoy perusing East Street Hive.

Hi and hello! Welcome to East Street Hive, where I lay my soul bare for you, the peruser and browser. Alright, so it's not that dramatic. This is Etsy, after all, where you and I can make beautiful and quirky things to share with each other. So sit back, open a window, and enjoy the fresh air as you survey my wares.

Shipping
As many of the things for sale in my shop are fragile, I do my best to package them securely, with gentle love and tender bubblewrapping. However, if for some reason the packages are handled unusually roughly- say your mailman has had a particularly bad day, and in a fit of rage throws your beautiful new collage to the ground, grinding his heel into the front of the box, all the while muttering curses against “the Man” or perhaps your neighbor’s dog- I won’t be held responsible for broken purchases. I guarantee that anything you buy leaves my little house good and whole, but anything between my handing it to my local Post Office Worker and the package landing on your doorstep is out of my hands. However, should the glass in your frame break- Heaven forbid- most frames I sell are standard sizes and a new piece of glass shouldn’t be hard to find.
Refunds and Exchanges
In the event that you are completely dissatisfied with one of my items, you may ship it back to me (at your expense) and I will refund your payment.
