About

My heart is in the art

I have always been able to create something beautiful from raw materials and gain pleasure and satisfaction when sharing whatever has been born of a daydreamer's fantasy. I have been a poet and memoirist, with two books published and a third in progress.

I was paralyzed by illness as a five-year-old, and while I recovered at home, my artist mother taught me to experiment with my hands in many art forms and crafts.

I painted, embroidered, sewed, made clay pots, strung necklaces and had the richest and happiest times in those years. I was among a family of artists and curiosity and freedom of expression were fostered and revered.

I returned to stringing beads again later on and have my heart in the art of it. I've invested in the best tools, materials, and the emotional energy I have for my passion of jewelry making.

I use only sterling silver in my findings. Bali sterling silver is handmade by Bali Island craftspeople in Indonesia. Their skills are passed down from generation to generation as it has been for a very long time. It is distinctive and highly valued. You will not find silver-plated or alloy findings in my jewelry.

I use only professional grade 49 strand softest drape beading wire. It is unlikely to kink or twist over time. The soft drape gives my necklaces and bracelets a highly professional quality and craftsmanship. The tools I have invested in are jeweler's quality pliers and cutters. They allow me to create quality items with precision. All of my bracelets and necklaces are finished with sterling silver wire guards to protect the life of the item from wear and tear and these also add a professional finish to them. I shoot all of my own photographs in natural lighting outdoors.

I am interested in the exotic, the unique, the historic and the universal appeal of the materials I choose. I love my working life, and want to share some of it with you.

Sincerely,
Gail Thornton

Hello! Welcome to my shop, EclecticDesigns! I opened my shop in 2007, but most recently have been working to build new inventory and grow the shop with new and exciting treasures while I work on my second memoir. Coming soon will be thrilling items using antique African trade beads, hand-painted clay Inca beads, hand-painted ceramic Peruvian beads, vintage Aztec tile beads, Southwestern bears of incacia design, art resin beads, bracelets using precious and semiprecious gemstones and Karen Hill tribe silver and my findings of choice, handmade Bali sterling silver. It is in the creative process that I am most happy and hope to share my vision of elegance, style, history, and fun with you! Please feel free to message me even if you just want to share some of your life or interests with me. I am curious and responsive to my visitors, and love to hear your stories!
