Handmade Bears and Friends for all Ages of Bears Lovers and Collectors

Making soft toys, bears and all kinds of art has been a love of mine since I was a child. I love making things and even in earliest photos I see of myself, I am always making something. Even if it is just a mess : ) My studio is always messy as I have several projects on the go at once- fur pulled for a new bear, fur being cut for other animals, sewn bodies with no faces yet, finished animals watching all this...and a lot of shed fur all over the place. My studio on cutting days is not a good place to be if you have allergies. I vacuum out my space a huge amount. It is really hard to keep this drift of fur out of the sculpting area too...

My decision to make soft toys and bears as a business came about because I wanted to work from home so I could be with my little one and support her when she needed me to. We also wanted to create all the animals she designed in her head, but we could never find in a store. She kept me so busy that I named my store after her- She is the Eden: ) Family comes first and I steal bear making time when I can. I am a self taught bear and stuffed animal artist.

I am both an Industrial Designer and Industrial Engineer, so one part of me is designing the bear and the other is working out how to make a quality product. I create one of a kind hand crafted bears and each is made from my own patterns and they are all finished by me from nose to paw tips. I will make limited edition of simpler bears but with all of them I put in care, love, attention to the finish and detail. A huge amount of time and effort goes into the creation of a high quality unique bear, so my OOAK bears are for collectors and not for children.

I have always loved making bears- I still have some that I made when I was at high school. I often buy fur before I plan an animal. Some fur just wants to be a bear. My family calls the closet I keep my "furs" in the 'Cruella DeVil' closet, though I have only recently added anything spotty to it. I have an entire studio devoted to sewing, polymer clay sculpting, painting and needle felting. I am looking to combine needle felting with the animal I make, as I think I can get more interesting features on the face that way.

My Granny was a sculptor of note and her work is such an inspiration to me and I want to bring that to my work and is also probably why I am always looking to 'sculpt' my bears faces which needle sculpting and felting allow. Gran could sculpt a face so well you waited for the it to blink : )

I get a lot of inspiration from watching cartoons with Eden and reading her books with her. Funny how a nose of an animal in a book can springboard into a whole new toy. I adore dogs and had a Great Pyrenees who would hang around outside my studio door while I worked. He passed away on July 3, 2014. I miss him dearly. I read comics, love Terry Pratchett's discworld series and play the Smurf game, Skylanders and other computer games with Eden as time allows.

Nature has always been important to me. I have a 'furry addiction' when it comes to fuzzy things. If it has fur, there is a place in my heart for it. Feathers too, actually. I do not make animals out of real fur as I feel the fur is needed more by the living animal and that animal will die if it is taken from them. I do not like the practices of many places that produce the fur, or trapping methods used to catch an animal.

I make everything from the beginning. I do purchase patterns occasionally and make them. If I decide to sell them then I will credit that designer as it is a huge amount of time, effort and experimenting to get a pattern right! I have my own designs too. I do it all: from faux fur fabric to finished animal. Making bears involves developing the pattern cutting, sewing, stuffing, jointing and finishing the bear. I use scissor sculpting, needle sculpting, needle felting and on occasion I will airbrush color to add special detail.

My days are full and happily creative. I hope that love shows up in my work ; )

Eden and Friends is inspired by and named for, my daughter. Her request for handmade soft toys, teddy bears, plush animals and funny monsters that we could not always find in stores led to to break out the sewing machine and start creating.

Eden and Friends is run by Michele Freeman, a self taught needle felter with many years of being taught to sew at school and by my mom and grandma. I do my best to make each piece the best I can so that little fingers get to enjoy carrying them around by the ear for years. I love using high quality fashion faux fur or natural fabrics such as mohair when I create. I am always looking to push myself a bit and challenge my skills to make new creatures. Commission pieces are always welcome to me as they test my skills and push me where I would not myself.

Please note that with the luxurious and soft fabrics I use, that monitors can show different colors to what it is really and sometimes it may not be what you expect. I will always work with you as I really want you to love what you have bought from me. I hand craft heirlooms for you and your family to treasure for many years.

I hope you love my work and as an artist, I am always pleased to hear from you what you think. Thank you for stopping by and looking!

I gladly accept Paypal payments and through them credit cards. I also have Etsy direct check out available. That will be the fastest way to get an order processed and is preferred. Please, make payment with Paypal within 72 hours or I will have to consider the order cancelled. Thank you.

I will do a layaway arrangement, but as I have been a bit burnt now on this, I am having to put my foot down with a firm hand : ) The layaway arrangement will be done in at most 3 installments and the last of these will be the final payment of the item plus shipping costs. I will accept monthly payments- so three months for the layaway plan. I am happy to work with you on a reasonable time frame. I really thank you for understanding!
Shipping of an already finished item will happen at most 2 - 3 business days after the receipt of payment. Items listed are ready for shipping unless you want it further customized. I will use a shipping method that can be tracked and a tracking number can be sent to the buyer if they provide an email address. That way it can also be easily insured if it needs to be. I do not charge a handling fee. I am also happy to combine multiple items when shipping. I will also upgrade shipping if you wish- just let me know! Please note though that if you want faster shipping it is at an extra cost. Sorry, but I have found on small items it can cost me as much to ship as what the item is worth, and if I carry that cost I loose out and cannot craft more stuff.

Please make sure your Etsy listed address is correct as this is where I will ship to- not the Paypal address. If they both match then I am super happy and I know where to ship, but just in case it is the Etsy address I will use. Also the Etsy address is the one I am given first to create a shipping label with. If you need me to ship to another address please let me know in the instructions to seller on the original check out. Of course you may convo me anytime, so long as I have not already shipped.

Please contact me for international shipping to determine the fees. Buyers please be aware that the seller is not responsible for taxes, fees or duties associated with an international shipment.
Refunds and Exchanges
I do accept returns. Please convo me if what you get is not what you want or expect. Refunds are available on items returned to me in original condition but I am unable to refund shipping costs. If an item is received damaged by the delivery service please convo me within 3 days of receipt of that item so we can arrange a replacement for you and the return of the damaged item. The Buyer will please pay return shipping on a returned item, and I as Seller will pay return shipping on damaged items. Refunds will be done in the same way you paid.
Additional policies and FAQs
I will happily do a custom order for you, but that does require more time before I ship. I make my animals by hand with great care and one at a time. This can take a few days more : ). I try to fit it into a time frame you request but I do need at least 10 business days minimum, especially if I have to order fabric. Rush ordering of heavy fabrics adds a huge amount to the price so I would rather not have to do that. I will also be happy to work in a budget if you require.

I work in a smoke free environment and no longer have my Pyrenees Dog fur rug at my feet adoring me all day. I do groom any creations before sending them off anyway. I like to make sure none of my creations share fur either!
