AmbergateApothecary is taking a short break

Note from shop owner We're in the process of moving to Seattle! We have to have all of our business supplies barged down to us from Alaska, so it will be a little while before we reopen. But rest assure we will return as soon as possible, with even more wonderful products to enjoy!

I was surprised how quickly I received this, since it came all the way from Alaska! It's beautiful and I have had many compliments on it already. Thanks!

Welcome to Ambergate Apothecary!

We pride ourselves on offering gentle, high quality bath and body care products, specializing in care for all types of skin conditions (including acne, eczema, psoriasis, and dye/fragrance allergies). All of our products are handcrafted small batches in Anchorage, Alaska. We avoid harmful chemicals such as parabens, pthalates, and SLS, and make a conscious effort to source our ingredients from eco-friendly companies with responsible harvesting and packaging practices. Some of our newer products are even Vegan and Organic!

Ambergate Apothecary was founded in July 2009 (under the original name Eden's Escape) by Michigan-born owner/operator, Christine Harris. It started off as a quest to find an alternative to harsh, store-bought soap that left her sensitive skin dried out, and damaged. As she expanded her knowledge, she began offering her creations to family and friends, and eventually opened an online storefront. In June of 2013, Christine renamed the business, reflecting the broad spectrum of the products she wanted to offer and giving a nod toward the healing herbal properties of her all-natural products.

Shop policies

Ambergate Apothecary is owned and operated by Christine Harris.

Christine started making her own soap after suffering through years of dry skin, nasty soap film, and horrible rashes from using commercial, store-bought soaps. For Christine, soap-making is an exciting journey and a new way of life, not just a hobby.

Handmade soaps are not only better for your skin, but way better for the environment and your wallet! I'm a firm believer that once you go handmade, you'll never go back! You'll never buy another brand name bar again (or if you do, you won't like it)!

We currently offer handmade soaps and balms, but hope to expand in the near future to offer bath salts, soaks, scrubs, body sprays, lip balms, spa quality gift sets, and more!

We currently accept Paypal and direct checkout. In some special cases, we may choose to accept money orders or personal checks. If you don't have Paypal and still want to make a purchase, please contact us and we'll do our best to work something out with you!
Every order is hand-packed by me, to ensure it's safe arrival. By Default, I ship everything First Class via USPS. Generally, orders are sent out the business day after payment is received. Most packages should arrive within 3-5 business days, sometimes less! Canadian Customers may experience a slight delay, due to distance and/or possible customs inspections. Insurance, rush shipping, and gift wrapping are also available.

Flat-rate shipping is available for larger orders! If your shipping comes to more than $5 (and if your entire order will fit in a small flat-rate box), I will automatically ship flat-rate and refund any shipping charges above $5 back to your paypal account.

I am currently only quoting shipping prices for America and Canada. However, arrangements can be made for overseas delivery. Please contact me for more information!
Refunds and Exchanges
Due to the personal nature of our products, we cannot accept returns of any kind. (You wouldn't want a potentially used bar of soap, neither would anyone else!) All purchases are final.

We offer refunds on a case by case basis, and handle them by issuing store credit (for the item price, not including shipping) to replace the product or try a different product instead. If you are in need of a refund, please contact us, either via etsy convo or at ambergateapothecary [!at] to discuss your situation.

We cannot offer refunds for packages that "did not arrive". Every package we mail out includes delivery confirmation in the shipping price, and this allows us (and you) to track the location of your package. If for some reason it still doesn't arrive, this issue can be handled through the post office itself. If you'd like to add insurance to your package as well, just convo us and we can either adjust the listing or send you and updated paypal invoice.
Additional policies and FAQs
We assume NO responsibility for allergic reactions to our products or other issues along those lines. We clearly list all of our ingredients, and it is your responsibility as a consumer to read those listings and make sure to check for potential allergens.

To ensure a long life for your bar of soap, please remove it from the shower/tub and allow it to dry before the next use! Do not let it sit in standing water, or it will begin to disintegrate. Personally, we recommend cutting a small slice off the bar to use, and wrapping the rest up until it's needed.
