With paint-stained fingers and salty sea hair

A little bit of lovely with a healthy spattering of bizarre. My work often combines both, blending them into a harmonious whole.

Inspiration for my paintings comes from a variety of places: nature, forgotten antiques, detailed Flemish altarpieces, strange animals, natural history museums, unusual patterns, and crinkly ephemera, among other bits and bobs. My first true love, however, will always be the sea. Common themes in my work revolve around the natural world, often using playful contradictions. Each piece is meant to be whimsical, sometimes with a facetious jab or two, yet always with a barely-there, slight sense of foreboding.

I come from both a fine arts and scientific background, having obtained undergraduate degrees in Graphic Design as well as Environmental Science (with a Marine Ecology emphasis). My main areas of research have been in marine benthic invertebrate communities (diversity, abundance, and taxonomy of local benthic invertebrates) and in addition to being an artist, I work as an aquatic toxicologist and benthic ecologist. Working with the amazing and often surreal animals that live at the bottom of the sea constantly inspires me to paint them; and painting them inspires me to learn more about them (it's a never-ending cycle). Simply put, there is an odd, happy blend between my passion for the marine world and art: one can't live without the other.

After spending the day identifying polychaetes (marine worms) under a microscope, at night my world comes alive with half-empty tubes of paint, piles of natural history books, the sounds of Stravinsky, and creatures spewing forth from coffee-stained sketchbook pages.

In 2006 I created Eggman Studios, began actively selling my paintings with the public, and haven't looked back since. I live/work in a 1920s bungalow in the wilds of Puget Sound surrounded by books, inspiration, a shy coonhound, and a sweet ragamuffin of a cat. Everything you see in my shop is designed, drawn, painted, printed, assembled, packaged, and/or shipped entirely in-house exclusively by myself (I'm a stickler for detail).

My work is shared and collected world-wide. Getting to share it with you is top notch, and I welcome you into my little world with open arms (tentacles?) and a handful of peppermint sticks!

I'm both an artist and scientist with a passion for the sea. By day you'll find me busily working among jars of marine invertebrates and pools of ethanol. By night you'll find me bringing creatures to life with pencils and tubes of paint.

Hello and welcome! Everything you see in my shop is designed, drawn, painted, printed, assembled, packaged, and/or shipped entirely in-house exclusively by myself (I'm a stickler for detail).

I love my international peeps! Bunches and bunches! But please keep in mind, that it is unlawful for me to mark packages as "gift" on customs forms and that all customs fees/taxes (if any) are the sole responsibility of the buyer. Thank you for understanding!

Additional policies and FAQs
**PRINTS: I do all prints of my paintings myself on a professional fine art, large format printer with eight premium pigment-based UltraChrome archival inks to ensure the best results. Printed on glorious fine art, museum-quality velvet paper that’s 100% archival (acid-free base, 100% cotton rag content) and absolutely delicious. The colors sizzle!

**PRINT SIZES: If you see a particular print in the shop that you love but would prefer in a larger or smaller size, I can almost always accomodate that. Just give me a holler and we'll set you up.

Generally, images are printed to fit within standard mat/frame dimensions to make framing a bit easier. Measurements for the image and paper size for each print can be seen in the item's description. One simple framing solution is to purchase a "certificate" frame, which will frame all of my 8.5x11" prints without the need of a mat. Easy peasy!

**COPYRIGHT: I own all rights to my artwork and designs and am thoroughly proud of them. Please remember that sale of original art & prints of original art does not transfer rights to reproduce them. I retain all rights to my designs and images. Thank you for understanding.
