Announcement   From chunky mittens, cozy socks, woodland animal hoods to lace covered vases, there are all sorts of things in my shop to keep you and your home looking great, some made with 100% vegan acrylic yarn, others using Organic/Fairtrade cotton yarn. All of my bags are made using organic and Fairtrade cotton too.
I manufacture most of the items on my etsy page myself, but eka also has a 'main collection' launched each winter which is produced in a fair trade township called Auroville in India, the artisans there work from designs I make for them to copy, the end result is a beautifully made unique collection which is also affordable. The co-operation I have with the studio in Auroville means that I get more time to develop the collection and make the 'made to order' and 'one off' items each year and I can also sleep soundly at night knowing they artisans are paid a fair wage for their hard work.
Eka caters for individuals that want to stand out in a crowd, in the knowledge that the environment hasn't suffered as a result.

About

Eka, where unique style and quality are valued over disposability.

OUR ETHOS
Designed in the UK by Gilly, eka is a collection of hand crocheted items that are useful and beautiful at the same time.
Sustainability and fair trading standards are at the heart of eka. Every decision made for the company involves putting people and principles first before profit, a little more hard work is needed, but in the end it really feels worth the effort. The slogan 'if you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem' is printed onto the back of your labels to be a constant reminder of being the change you want to see in the world.

HAND MADE IN AUROVILLE
The village where our stock is made is called Auroville and is set in the South-East of India, in a region called Tamil Nadu. The town is not your average Indian town.
Auroville is a universal township with a population of around 2000 people from around the world. The concept of Auroville – an ideal township devoted to an experiment in human unity – was an idea which had planted its seed in the head of the creator as early as the 1930s. In the mid 1960s the Sri Aurobindo Society in Pondicherry proposed to the creator that such a township should be started. She gave her blessings and work began. The concept was put before the Government of India, who gave their backing and took it to the General Assembly of UNESCO. In 1966 UNESCO passed a unanimous resolution commending it as a project of importance to the future of humanity, thereby giving their full encouragement.

The purpose of Auroville is to realise human unity – in diversity. Today Auroville is recognised as the first and only internationally endorsed ongoing experiment in human unity, also concerned with – and practically researching into – sustainable living and the future cultural, environmental, social and spiritual needs of mankind.

FASHION WITH A CONSCIENCE

Working with Auroville has allowed eka to concentrate on designing collections of beautifully hand crafted hats, eco friendly scarves and shopper bags that are at the cutting edge of trends with an added gift to the buyer of sustainability and social conscience.
We here at eka don’t think that ethical credentials should mean that style, design or luxury are compromised- ‘GOOD’ fashion shouldn’t be boring, you should be able to indulge yourself buying handmade, gorgeous accessories that you love and the fact that it has been created ethically should be an added gift from us.
Thanks to Auroville, I can now concentrate on the creative side of things rather than all of the manufacture (though all of the 'one off' items are still made here and any items that sell out too)

We all love buying with our hearts. With eka, style and quality are valued over disposability and we know that fashion won’t sell on principles alone, it needs to be truly lovely and made with care.

I used to snowboard full time and on that journey a friend taught me to crochet. As time went on I began to snowboard less and crochet more, now crochet is my full time job and I'm lucky enough to love it just as much as when I first began.

The incredibly talented ladies of Auromics in the UNESCO endorsed township of Auroville help me in the production of the main collection. I design and make the prototypes and then they create the main capsule collection for me.

We've been working together on a small scale since 2008, I send over my sample pieces and Auromics in Auroville, India produce the amount I need in the colours and materials I order.
