Shop policies

Last updated on March 4, 2011
Hi! Welcome to my little neck of the artistic woods! This is an explanation of my policies for the items I produce for EKY art:factory. They cover any mixed media, print, ceramic, metal, jewelry or other odd object that comes bursting from my hands at the art:factory. If you have any questions, convo me. Although I'm "officially trained" in Ceramics and Metalsmithing, I'll get artistic with all sorts of media. In clay, I throw or handbuild my pieces. They are generally fired Cone 6 oxidation meaning I use an electric kiln. Having said that, I do have access to higher fire (Cone 10) atmospheric kilns (gas or wood-fired) including an Anagama, Phoenix and salt kiln so sometimes I'll mix my methods. I use stoneware clay. All my pieces unless marked otherwise, are vitrified and will hold water. All ceramic pieces should be dishwasher safe but I make no guarantees about microwave-ability since there are too many variables in clay and glaze recipes to predict how a piece will fare in the microwave. I work very hard at using food-safe glazes and do not use barium-based or lead glazes or clay bodies in anything that comes in contact with food. I'm less worried about items that are not food-based.

My jewelry work varies. I work primarily in copper and silver but I used to do production work for a jewelry company that dealt mostly in beads and patinaed metal so I'm not afraid to mix it up there, either.

The gourds and natural elements in my work come from my farm in Estill County, Kentucky nearly 100% of the time. Some gourds, like the egg gourds used in the Christmas ornaments, come from Welbourn Farm in California because I haven't had much success growing the egg gourds here but nearly every other gourd used whole or in pieces, started it's life in Kentucky. I use local natural elements because it's less expensive for me an appeals to my lazier nature. Why buy something when I can pick from a tree in my back yard!

Unfortunately, I cannot take personal checks or money orders but I do take payments through PayPal and all the major credit cards that PayPal services. You do not have to have a PayPal account to pay with a credit card, just choose the PayPal option and then choose the "pay by credit card" link. If full payment is not received within 7 days, the transaction will be cancelled.

Upon final payments clearing, all items will be shipped within 1-2 days. I ship USPS as it's the most cost effective and convenient to me here in the sticks. Delivery conformation and insurance are added to all items. Requests to ship UPS or FedEx will take an additional day (2-3 days) to ship. Shipping prices are for the Continental US under 5lbs; Alaska and Hawaii shipping prices are higher. Multiple items weighing over 5lbs and all other special shipping questions, convo me for more information. If you specifically request no delivery confirmation and insurance, sale of that item will be final.

All items are carefully packed in recycled, repurposed material whenever possible. I try to use biodegradable products like starch peanuts whenever possible.

All international orders are shipped USPS and are shipped with insurance and tracking. The buyer is responsible for any import tariffs or taxes on international items.
