I needed models to explain parts of spacecraft, and realized I could design and stitch durable, touchable, yet still reasonably accurate ones from plastic canvas. I'm selling designs as PDFs as well as kits.

All designs are made to a scale of approximately 1:50 (to be precise, it's 5 plastic canvas squares or 0.75 inches to a meter), unless otherwise stated. I've based my designs on photographs of the spacecraft as they were being prepared for launch, so the details are as accurate as I can make them in this medium. Many details differ from the official artist's concepts, because those are typically drawn long before the spacecraft is actually built.

Every one of my kits is packaged with double the amount of supplies that you should need, so if you're economical you can make two!

I am happy to answer any questions as you proceed with your stitching. Send email to blog [!at] planetary.org.

I'll gladly take requests for spacecraft to turn into plastic canvas designs. I don't sell stitched spacecraft, as I couldn't charge what they're worth in terms of my time. Having said that, if you are actually working on one of these missions and have nobody crafty on your team, send me an email and I'll see what I can do.
