We're very happy with the candles we bought in this order. The scents are very nice, just the right balance of subtle (not overpowering) scent while burning. Order turnaround was great. The shop generously provides samples so we can experience the other scents. A lot of thought went into the packaging and theme for these scented candles.

After ordering candles from elfinjoy for personal gifts, we decided to custom order several as holiday gifts for business associates. The shop was a pleasure to work with, responding to emails promptly and working with me to design a custom label for the gift box using our logo files. Shipments of the candles were made well ahead of our targeted date and we're receiving positive comments about the candles from recipients.
Let Us Share Quiet Moments
“May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.” - JRR Tolkien
I treasure quiet moments of reflection. With kids, work, and a seemingly constant stream of obligations, it can be difficult to go to my favorite places to be alone: in a cabin at the beach listening to waves; in a northern forest with a fresh breath of air; lying in a sunny meadow with a summer breeze. It can also be challenging to give myself permission to spend 10 minutes of my day alone. Those of you with kids know what I’m talking about.
A candle is a simple way to create that private space almost anywhere. It helps me focus. Depending on the scent, it can be relaxing, invigorating, or evoke mood and memories. I encourage you to enjoy a few minutes of reflection and the pleasure of a cheerful scent filling the room.
Candles make great gifts! I started making these because I love using them and I love giving them as gifts. My friends and family have received them for birthdays or anniversaries. For one particular friend going through an especially rough time in her life, I sent a candle with the JRR Tolkien quote at the top of this page. I was not able to be there in person but I wanted to send her some strength and hope. It’s not the same as a warm hug…but I like to think a little piece of me was there with her whenever she looked at the candle.
Travel much? - After working in the aviation industry for 15 years, I have spent my share of time on the road. The container candles have a lid so they travel well, are light weight, and I love taking them with me. Even if you do not light them in your hotel room, they throw a pleasant amount of scent sitting out uncovered. There are a couple of scents I like to bring (JOY or DAUNTLESS) to cheer up the room and make it smell more like home.
I hope you enjoy your candles as much as I enjoyed making them for you. Best wishes for your health and happiness!
Several years ago I got sick. I trained as a pilot and an air traffic controller, and was happily progressing in my career until one day I was unable to do my job anymore. I was in constant pain and was constantly fatigued as a result, and the medication used to manage my symptoms rendered me unable to hold the medical certification required to work as a controller. Since that time, it has been a challenge relearning how to live.
I have an autoimmune disease that causes chronic joint pain and fatigue. Like many people who have similar conditions, I have spent a lot of time in the last several years seeing specialists and bouncing back and forth between diagnoses and treatments. I have a great team of doctors working with me, and for the time being it appears we are on the right path.
Chronic illness presents many obstacles, not the least of which is a sense of social isolation. People dealing with illness are often surrounded by friends and family who care about them, but who cannot relate to what they are going through. In this way the internet has been a boon, putting strangers across the country (and world) in contact who might otherwise have never found the support they craved.
One of the opportunities I found in my situation was learning to be more compassionate toward myself and others. Joy Selak talks in her book, "You Don't LOOK Sick," about how being ill made her a better person. It was not until I had to deal with a condition nearly invisible to others that I truly began to understand that not all may not be as it seems. People who look normal may be putting a smile on their face to hide their pain or keep up their own optimism - not because all is well.
I am grateful to those connections I found with complete strangers who have shared their stories in print and online. Their anonymous empathy has made me feel less alone, and helped me to find comfort and joy in my situation. I would like to pass on that sharing of strength if I can.
About My Candles:
My candles are made to share joy, to give support, and to send your love to people you care about - and that most definitely includes you! I want them to be a gift you can feel good about giving and enjoying. My candles are made from natural and healthy ingredients, and packaging and materials are reused and/or disposed of responsibly. This project is also about giving back, so part of your purchase will be donated to charity. Please read on for more details.
Candles are made with all natural soy wax manufactured from American-grown soy beans. Soy candles burn cleaner, longer, and accumulate less soot than typical paraffin wax. Soy wax does have some peculiarities, such as a tendency to “frost” or accumulate tiny white crystals on the surface that look like a dusting of powder. Frosting is completely normal for soy wax, and will not affect the burn characteristics or the scent of the candles.
All fragrances used are phthalate-free. Phthalate esters have been used for decades in many common household products, but recent studies have raised concerns that exposure to phthalates may cause health problems. Until and unless we know for sure that phthalates are safe to use, my products will be free of phthalates.
Charitable giving: I have added several different size candles this year, so in addition to $1 of all full-size candle orders, 10% of all other orders will be donated to the American Autoimmune Related Disease Association. Approximately 50 million Americans - about 20% of the population - suffer from autoimmune diseases. AARDA is a 501(c)3 organization that promotes public education regarding autoimmune diseases and funds collaborative research. There are over 100 known autoimmune diseases, and although they can manifest very differently, they are similar in that the process underlying the condition is a malfunctioning immune system. Instead of focusing on a single disease, AARDA funds research to understand autoimmunity itself in hopes that it will help cure multiple diseases. More information can be found at their website at www.AARDA.org.
**For my first (short) year, my total donation from sales from this site was over $50 - a solid start for my first few months. Thank you to everyone who purchased candles in 2016!**
Reuse and recycle: The containers I use can either be reused or recycled once your candle is spent. The stainless steel tins make great craft containers for beads, buttons, or other loose odds ’n’ ends. The tea light containers are made of recyclable plastic. Even the labels used are recycled and recyclable. Shipping materials are biodegradable, reused / reusable, and/or recyclable.
Candles are made in small batches in Burien, Washington. Soy wax manufactured from soybeans grown in the USA. All fragrances phthalate-free.
My day job is working for the Federal Aviation Administration. I was an air traffic controller for seven years - and I loved going to work every day. Four years ago I got sick, and that struggle has changed the way I view life, work, and friendship.
