This item was beautifully handcrafted and I had previously purchased another similar votive candle holder from another designer same price three times bigger. Both were handcrafted.

With the sun of springtime I'm moving my studio outside!
For this season of new growth I'm also accepting concept submissions for luminary designs. What do you want to see on a shadow box? Send me a convo with your ideas. You may be rewarded!

Imagination to 2D to 3D!

I've been a photographer my whole life and have dabbled in drawing here and there. But for the last few years I've been scaling up to three dimensions!

In the summer of 2013 my friend opened a new business - Zot Lasers Cutting and Engraving - and suddenly I had the ability to convert my line drawings and photos into three-dimensional art using wood, acrylic and paper. I've been madly enjoying exploring all the possibilities of working with this new medium!

Each of my pieces begins with a hand drawing I create using my tablet and Inkscape, an open source vector drawing program. The designs are then cut and/or etched into wood using a laser cutter. For the final step I assemble the pieces in my home, usually with the help of my cat. Afterward, I end up with a lot of tiny scrap pieces of wood in fun wiggly and angular shapes. I use these to offer mosaics art activities for kids at street fairs and also donate them to school and non-profit art programs near me.

Most of what I have available on Etsy are items from my line of tea light candle luminaries, but I also create laser cut wood light switch plates, picture frames, earrings, wall panel art, and electric lamps. Occasionally I get the opportunity to incorporate my laser work into public art installations, generally in the Seattle area.
