What really sold me on this necklace were all of the customization options, allowing me to purchase a piece that was exactly what I wanted. I could tell from the photos that it looked handcrafted, which in my opinion is so much better than all the mass produced stuff out there. Also Louise is wonderful to work with, great communication and very fast turnaround time.

About

Portrait of the Artist in her New England Studio

I guess you could say I'm the anti-Eli Whitney. Whitney is famous, of course, for pioneering an era of mass production based on the principle of interchangeable parts.

Not for me. Not in my studio.
Whether it's a simple pair of minimalist 14K gold stud earrings or a more complex pendant with a free form gemstone, mixed metals and texture, each piece is designed and made by me, one at a time, on my workbench.

My tiny, modern studs are made by me, one pair at a time. Whether the earrings are solid 14K gold, gold tops with silver posts, or all sterling silver, they are made with the same old world hand made process. Each pair is measured, cut, soldered and polished by hand. The polishing is done 6 to 10 steps, depending on the desired shine. I don't use any mass finishing equipment and no power tools. All by hand.

My artisan design process often starts with choosing gemstones. I work in groups of 4 of a similar size and design. I look them over for a day, or a week, or maybe a month, until an idea begins to emerge. Once the gemstones are brought to my workbench, I use their look and feel to develop the design.

Sometimes the design starts with an idea or concept. My garden in the springtime. Waves lapping a deserted beach in the winter. The vast emptiness of the solar system. Zen.

I use metalsmithing techniques that go back centuries. I manipulate metal by forging, soldering, cutting, texturing and casting, to create one-of-a-kind artisan, designer and statement jewelry.

Additional policies and FAQs
Ring sizing:

When ordering a ring, please select the size at checkout. If you do not select a size, I will assume that you want the ring as described in the listing. If you do not know your size, please do not guess. Have your finger sized by a professional. Your local jeweler is a good source for this.

When buying a ring with a wide band, 1/4 to 1/2 size larger than your usual size will often feel more comfortable.

When I make a ring in the size that you requested, it is considered a custom order. As a custom order, it is non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Please note that my stated ring sizes are US sizes.
