About

How did EllenTenTen come to be, I wonder?

This is going to be a drawn-out story, telling you right now. I like writing. So, if you like reading...

SO. After graduating from college with a degree in English (after taking four years off in the middle), I was living with a great friend in Brooklyn for the summer of 2007. I lay in bed one night thinking, what the hell am I going to do with a degree in English? The truth is- brace yourselves- you don't get paid to read the New Yorker and write in your journal. Life is hard. But you know that phrase going around Pinterest, said by letter designer Jessica Hirsche: "The work you do while you procrastinate is probably the work you should be doing for the rest of your life" ?
Well, that was my line of thinking. Throughout my college career, what was I doing on off days? Evenings, Saturdays? What did I hog a sunny, drowsy, completely mine computer carrel in the library for? (Obsessive online boot shopping, that last one.) But the main thing: thrifting. Treasure hunting. I loved it, am obsessed with it. Diving into a great consignment store, coming up with seemingly one of a kind duds, discovering gems. Really the thrill of the hunt is half the fun. The other half is appreciation of unique beauty, and the other half (the third one, yes) is being dissatisfied with the mainstream offerings. When you have specific loves and likes, you want Exactly those! You simply can't settle with sort-of fitting, close to what you like. No. You WILL find what you like.

So there I was laying in bed thinking about what I'm going to do and it suddenly dawned on me: I should open a store. Fist I sold on ebay, then I spent a good almost year making a website, which didn't work out but was good training for picture editing and selling, and then I went back to ebay, and then finally etsy. Throughout all this was moving, small spaces, no space of my own, I mean, you know, I'm leaving a lot out, etc., etc. But you know what? Build it and they will come. Or, start where you are. Or, just do it. Or: walk on that invisible bridge made of faith, you only know it's there when you place your foot on it.

Plus, it's fun.

Point being, through everything is this love for beauty, finding gems, and photographing them, seeing the results, connecting with others who have these specific loves. I am very happy to have recently opened EllenTenTen again, and I hope to be happily sending out lovely items all over the world for many years to come. Please peruse my store! I'm on IG, too. Facebook, all that. EllenTenTen. Join me!

Hello, I'm Ellen. My b-day is 10/10- that's the store name story. Since a mere tot in middle school, I have loved combing through thrift shops to find unique and gorgeous clothing. I am so happy to now bring you my finds!

Hello and thanks for browsing my store. My policies are thus:

I will ship the item USPS, first class or priority. I try to have the postage almost exact to what you are paying, though there is a little guess work involved. Nevertheless, I'm not making money off of postage. I always use delivery confirmation, except when it can't be done, such as overseas.

I ship once a week.

I accept returns if you email me within five days of sale. You will pay the shipping back. If you have a problem with your item, write me. I will try to make you happy, reasonably!

Any international customs and duty fees will be paid by the buyer.

Thank you very much!
