Announcement   My work centers around originality, individuality, quality and service. I enjoy quilt and garment construction with some forays into toys and accessories. The larger quilts are usually based on a pattern with my own twist: for instance choice of color. The wall quilts are usually original designs. Some of this designing and creativity is evident also in my vests, jackets and ensembles. I fashion my creations for their intended use. Bed quilts are constructed for use and longevity; Art quilts on the premise that these will be hung for decoration, and Wearable Art so that it is truly wearable. Children's garments are meant to be comfortable and useable. I use a sewing machine for fabric construction, but all my knitting and crochet is done by hand.
Take a look at what I offer here and in my art shop at elsackarr.etsy.com.. If you don't see what you're looking for, ask me to design a product for you. I will draw up some proposals for you to choose from after you give me an idea of what you're looking for..

It is absolutely delightful. I am using it for a shower gift for a baby girl. I bought a cute Valentine's Day bib to give as well. The workmanship is wonderful since I always give handknit gifts.

About

Welcome to My Shop

Welcome. I have two shops; this one, devoted to crafts, and another devoted to art: elsackarr.etsy.com. My mother taught me to knit, sew and crochet between the ages of 6 and 7. I don’t remember which started first. In the beginning I made doll’s clothes, then, as an adolescent, my own clothes. I even made a suit for a friend in high school. Having grown up in a “do-it-yourself” family, I continued to make clothing, curtains/drapes, slip covers, etc for my home and family. When my younger son arrived for a piano lesson in a denim blue aran style sweater, his teacher asked, “Did your mother make that?” She told me that he said,”Oh yes, my mother makes everything except dungarees.” In fact, one of my marketing problems is that I do a bit of everything instead of concentrating on a single line. However, the diversity is what keeps me interested.

I began selling my work after my daughter in law said my granddaughters couldn’t wear everything I made them-there weren’t enough days in a year. She suggested that I start selling. I began with craft shows in 1998, continuing until the work involved became too demanding. At that point I developed a web site: www.elaskfiberarts.com. If you log into that site, you will find a gallery of past work and a blog with informative articles on techniques such as thread painting and various styles of knitting.

The first etsy shop grew out of a workshop sponsored by “Berkshire Creative” an organization for creative enterprises.
.
I love creating and I love a challenge, so if you’d like something other than the listings on my site, I’d welcome a custom order.

Additional policies and FAQs
I welcome custom orders for individual items or small numbers of an item at your request. I do not produce in quantity, therefore wholesale is not my realm. I enjoy a challenge if you have a particular fiber item you want designed and executed. I will be honest about whether I can meet your expectations or not. When fullfilling a custom request, I usually draw up a number of proposals from which you can choose. All plans are my property and not to be shared. A deposit to secure the request is required, usually half the purchase price.
