From Hobby to Craft to Business

Hi! Welcome to Ember's Rainbow Rings!

My name is Ember and I am originally from California, but moved to the Oregon coast where I have begun setting up business both online and at physical vends all up and down the West Coast.

My love of chain maille began when I was very young. I have always been a fantasy lover, and chain maille is one of those things that simply went hand in hand with everything else of that genre. When I was older, I started attending Renaissance Faires, first as a patron, and later as a volunteer. In that environment, you run into a lot of people who make and sell chain maille, usually of the armor variety, but often jewelry also. I always thought it looked difficult, but like a lot of fun, but never had the opportunity to try it.

Then one day, at Joannes Fabrics, I found out that they had chain maille rings on clearance. "Great!" I thought, "Now is my chance." So I bought a bunch and began to play with them. From there I looked online to find more variety, and once I bought my first rings online, I had a good sized set of rings to play with, and from there I ran with it and haven't really put it down since. I have made it my mission to learn as many different styles and weaves as I can, and have a wonderful time looking at pictures online and puzzling out how to recreate the same pattern on my own, without tutorials.

One of the things that I find unique about the pieces that I make, as opposed to so many other wonderful chain maille crafters out there, are the colors. I love color, I always have. And I absolutely love making super shiny, colorful pieces of jewelry that stand out from everything else around them! Of course, since I do make custom pieces, I have no problems making pieces with more muted colors, like more silver and black. I just personally have more fun with bright, Rainbow colors: which is where the business got its name.

As for my inspiration, I pull much of that from the interests and personal identities of my close friends. I make many Pride themed pieces for a large variety of sexual orientations and gender identities. I also make pieces with symbols or themes from various religions. I draw inspiration for a lot of my work from nature and the world around us. And of course, my personal favorite, I make many pieces that are Fandom based, such as Harry Potter, My Little Pony, and the Avengers to name just a few. I am ALWAYS looking for new places to draw inspiration from, so if you have an idea even as simple as a theme that you would like to see done, or a Fandom you would like represented, let me know. I would love to work with you to build you a custom, unique piece of your very own!

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message me. Please understand though, I am just one person. I do not have a crew of people working for me. I will respond to any messages with every bit of speed that I can, but in busy times I may not be as quick as I might like. Thank you so much for your understanding and happy shopping!

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

I specialize in custom orders and am happy to make something new! I have listings designed specifically to make custom orders easier. However, if you do not find what you are looking for in the shop, I will be happy to try and accommodate for what you need. Just send me a message here on Etsy or through my facebook page and we can figure out how to make you exactly the piece that you are looking for!

Sizing details

All of my premade pieces are fitted to a 7" wrist, 15" Neck, and 10" Ankle. If a premade piece is the wrong size, please send me a message when you place your order. I will happily resize most pieces up or down within an inch or two.

Care instructions

My pieces are made with anodized aluminum rings and require little to no care. The coating created in the oxidation process also means that the rings of my jewelry are hypoallergenic to all but the most sensitive of skins. They are tough enough for everyday wear and should not be damaged by body oils, water, chemicals, etc. The clasps and Earring hooks used are Stainless Steel and should not cause any irritation or discoloration. If a piece is particularly delicate and must be worn with some care, a note will be made in the listing for that specific piece.

Packing Slips

Because Etsy includes all of the information digitally that is generally contained on a paper packing slip, we have decided to refrain from including paper packing slips anymore. We feel (and many of our customers have agreed) that it is a needless waste of paper (and a strain on the environment) in most cases. If the order is large, complicated, includes a gift with a special message, or is specifically requested by the customer, we will happily include one! Otherwise, we will refrain and save our customers the trouble of trying to Recycle the paper.
