Announcement   We make unique, hand-made jewellery using materials (also hand-made!) from East Africa: recycled paper beads, glass, seeds, beans, clay, semi-precious stones, cow bone and cow horn, amongst others.

Embira Jewellery is a husband-and-wife team, and we started our small business in Uganda, where we both used to live and where we met. Now we live in the U.K. and are trying to bring our small African cottage industry to the wider world! We sell regularly in the Norfolk, U.K. area at craft fairs, festivals, and other events. Last year we were part of the Black History Month event here in Norwich, which was wonderful.

From living in Uganda we got to know many great people who make and supply materials for jewellery work, and we continue to buy from them now we are here in U.K. We are constantly looking for more skilled artisans in East Africa from whom we can buy our materials directly, at a fair price that reflects the time and skill involved in making these beads. Last year we started working with Gorretti, a Rwandese lady living in Uganda who makes the most beautiful recycled paper beads we have seen - they are so glossy and well-finished! We now commission Goretti to make paper beads for us in the colours and sizes we like, so look out for more of our recycled paper designs in the future!

By purchasing embira jewellery, you will be therefore helping us to continue working with artisans in East Africa such as Gorretti, and helping us to continue to help them earn a fair and living wage.

As an African-European couple we bring both our cultures into our designs, and try to create things that will appeal to many people of different cultures and ages. We also have unisex designs for men.

We hope you like our jewellery! We would love to hear from you if you have any questions, would like to find out more, or have an idea for a custom necklace that you think we could help with...

Have a lovely day, and thanks for stopping by our shop!

Hello! Thanks very much for visiting our Embira Jewellery shop on Etsy. We hope you like our hand-made items that we make using materials from East Africa. On this page you can read all the more boring but necessary things about payments and policies. We hope it answers your questions, but always feel free to contact us.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards
Payment
Please pay using secure PayPal for your embira jewellery.
You do not need a PayPal Account to pay for your items through PayPal:
Choose the PayPal Option during checkout. After you submit your order, click the "Pay Now" button. Scroll Down and you will see the option to pay with a Credit or Debit Card WITHOUT having to sign up for a PayPal account.
Packages will not be sent until payments have been cleared. If you are having problems with payment please do get in touch with us.
Shipping
All jewellery is safely and securely sent using bubble-wrap envelopes to ensure that they will arrive without damage.

We always aim to ship your items within 48 hours of receiving your order, but often sooner. We will always ship to your Etsy registered address. Please check that it is up-to-date. If your registered PayPal address differs from your Etsy address, we will send your packet to your Etsy registered address. If you have any problems, and need to change your address after checkout, please get in touch with us as soon as possible as if we have yet to dispatch your item(s) we will certainly do our best to help.

Items shipped to the U.K. will be sent using recorded delivery as standard.

Items shipped to international destinations will be sent using regular airmail as standard. This does not have guaranteed delivery. However, for some countries, 'signed for' services are available, at an extra cost. If you would like this service, please do contact us before purchase. Below we have listed the countries that can receive this 'signed for' service, and what the extra charge would be. This charge would be a flat-rate charge added to your order, no matter how many items are in your order:

Belgium, Denmark, Republic of Ireland, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Singapore, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland: £5

Andorra, Australia, Azores, Balearic Islands, Brazil, Canada, Canary Islands, Corsica, Estonia, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Latvia, Liechenstein, Madeira, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Portugal, U.S.A.: £6.

DHL courier service is also available at rates starting from £6 for U.K, £24 for EU, £30 for U.S.A & Canada, and £35 for rest of the world. If you are requiring this service, please contact us first and we will quote the service for you.

Estimated delivery times:
U.K: Up to five working days
Europe Union: Up to ten working days
Rest of the world: variable by country. Customs can delay packages by up to six weeks, but this is rare. Please do get in touch with us if you would like more detailed information about shipping times to your home. U.S.A will be quicker than Vanuatu, for example!

If choosing a premium shipping option to an international destination, delivery is likely to be quicker.

Have any questions? Please contact us, and we will always do our best to help you as we want our work to get to you safely, and for our customers to be happy!
Refunds and Exchanges
Although we really hope you will love your embira product, please do get in touch with us within 28 days if you are unhappy with it, and we will offer you a refund. Postage will not be able to be refunded, unfortunately, and the buyer needs to pay for postage to return the item to us.
Additional policies and FAQs
We have lots of lovely coloured beads, and know that everyone has their own taste, so if you would like a custom order, please do get in touch with us and we will do our best to help!
