Announcement   Summer is always a busy time of year for me with shows and events, so there is a very broad spectrum of creativity going on, I love it and even with the longer days there is not enough hours in the day to get through it all. I have too many ideas for my own good sometimes! So my message is I am still here, embroidering like mad but not quite able to keep up with the media side of things that is expected from Etsy shopkeepers. Enjoy the summer sunshine.

It is hard to choose a favorite, but I love these fairy deer. Such little gems to have in my knitting bag, that I kinda want to collect them all.

Woah, the pictures don't do the beauty justice. I am in such an awe of the design and the way the bag is made. Such eye for detail. They are like little perfumed jewels in my knitting bag and hopefully will also keep away the moths. Thanks so much for the fast shipping and wonderful makership.

About

I just love what I do, it only becomes work when there are not enough hours in the day!

These original designs from my GOLD Embroidered Collection are inspired by the natural world around me. The highlights from the metallic threads, create a wonderful three dimensional aspect to the stitch which I really enjoy using for running hares, animals and textures found in nature.
I start by doing some sketches and then I have always treated the machine needle in the creative process as my pencil.

Initially I was creating Thread Paintings of the English landscape , enjoying the spontaneity of free machine embroidery techniques onto hand painted silk.
Taking my Thread Paintings into production, was very much bucking the technical trend at the time, I convert and originate all my designs for stitching onto our commercial embroidery machines. I really enjoy this process, even if the digitising I need to do, can be rather technical at times, but the artist always wins over.
I love the repetitive aspect of small production runs, just as I did when I trained in 3 Dimensional Design and Ceramics at Loughborough, albeit now a lot faster, and more colourful working in textiles, drawing with stitches, and developing my own decorative designs.
So please use them, wear them out, enjoy them and then come back for more.
I am happy to discuss commissions and any special projects you may have in mind.

Frequently asked questions

Sizing details

The designs for these lavender bags are larger at around 11 cm square, featuring around 16000 stitches and have the space to tell more of a story.
They are therefore much bigger than the cameo versions currently featured on my own Embroidered Collection website online shop at a much lower stitch count and price.

Custom and personalised orders

I am happy to consider personalised orders, based on my designs.
I will be featuring some intertwined letters with hearts for wedding themes in the future.

Care instructions

Squeeze the lavender bag gently to refresh the fragrance.
Avoid contact with polished surfaces.
No extra oils have been added, these are just dried lavender flowers of a lovely fragrant variety.

Gift wrapping and packaging

They are wrapped in a nice clear bag and closed with a label, and mailed in strong mailer envelopes and sent by Royal Mail.

For customers in the UK, should you wish for any of the following, next day guaranteed or tracking and / or parcel to be signed for please upgrade to the faster delivery option. I will advise on receipt of your order.

For customers outside of the UK please contact me for advice.

Are these designs featured on anything else other than lavender bags?

Yes, these GOLD designs by Pauline Thomas also feature on other items such as accessories, bags and clothing. To see these, please go to my website.

Do you do commissions and what else do you do?

Yes. As someone who earns a living from the machine embroidery that I do, I have regular commercial customers and take on special commissions all the time.

Ongoing work includes heraldic and university club crests, in particular for rowing blazers as seen on the riverbanks at Henley Royal Regatta.
I am asked to create embroideries for other designers from their own drawings for use in fashion.
I have also recently completed several ecclesiastical projects.

I regularly sell my work at good Craft shows and events that we organise ourselves.
In the summer I 'wear my other hat' to help my husband with selling his letter carving work Oakwords.

Do you scan your designs for the origination of stitches.

No, despite the technology available I do not scan any designs, nor use vectored artwork, nor design on screen.

I prefer pencil and paper, so all drawings and digitising are done by hand converting each element bit by bit, with consideration to underlays, stitch paths, minimal trims and above all a three dimensional aspect to the stitch, which when combined with metallic threads has become the hallmark of my work.
