About

The Story Behind South Street Creative

Once upon a time I found myself envious of the clip art I saw in web designs on the blogs I was reading. A trip down the internet rabbit hole lead me to the original artists. I looked through their portfolios in awe. Truthfully, art had never been my strong suit in school, but I was inspired and determined to create my own clip art. I was soon researching the programs that would help bring my doodles to fruition. Adobe Illustrator was the program everyone seemed to be using. Unfortunately, I could not afford it so I searched for an alternative and found it: Inkscape.

I watched tutorial after tutorial to learn how to use the pen tool, tweak nodes, use gradients, and all the other great stuff that goes with digital art. After learning the basics on Inkscape, I purchased a reasonably priced program called Serif Drawplus X5 to continue learning and creating. I then learned of Etsy and decided to open my own shop to sell the art I was proud of. In November 2012, Cinnamon Design Studio officially launched. In less than 2 weeks, I had sold my first two items and I was over the moon! It was and still is so mind blowing to me that I've created art that people love.

Admittedly, I'm an indecisive person and went through a few name changes—I started as Cinnamon Design Studio, changed to Emily Ann Design Studio and then Emily Reece Designs. Once I got married and changed my last name to my husband's, I didn't want to use my maiden name in my business anymore. South Street Creative popped into my head one day and I knew that that name was the final name my business was meant to have.

I'm not the best artist on Etsy by a long shot, but I feel that with each piece of art I make, my artistic abilities are growing and improving. It took me awhile to find my footing, to find my place in the sea of Etsy digital designers and to find a name that fits, but I found it and I'm happy with South Street Creative. I just hope you’ll stay and grow with me!
