Please note that USPS shipping can be slightly slower than usual at this moment in time. Sometimes packages are not scanned in at the post office or are not showing movement en route. But they are actually on their way to their destination. This seems to be normal right now due to understaffing.
If you are local to Minneapolis and would like to pick-up your purchase, use coupon code: MPLSPORCHPICKUP when checking out and contact Emily to make contactless porch pickup arrangements.

I love throwing... but really only a small fraction of my time is spent on the wheel!

Each of those dots that you see if applied one by one!

Gearing up for glazing (aka: the calm before the storm!).

This is my throwing and trimming area... it's not always as clean as this!

Opening up a warm kiln never gets old! It is always exciting!
Handcrafted pottery for the home. Replace the plastic in your life with beautiful pottery.
I'm a potter working in porcelain in my home studio in the Powderhorn neighborhood of south Minneapolis. I make functional pottery that bring seek to find a balance between beauty and utility. I love making beautiful, personal items that replace all of the plastic that you have in and around your home. I write a blog, potteryblog.com about my adventures in clay.
Bio:
Emily Murphy received her BA in ceramics from Earlham College in 1999. After that, she spent 10 years in Chicago where she taught and maintained a studio at Lillstreet. While in Chicago, her work was primarily soda fired stoneware. In 2009 she moved north to Minneapolis to build a home and studio. Her work now is porcelain, fired in oxidation to cone 10. Although it’s a departure from her earlier work, the essence of being true to the material and firing process are at the heart of her work. Form and surface come together as simple, functional pieces of pottery.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalised orders
Custom orders usually take 6-8 weeks to complete. Most of my work goes through 3 firings. In order for a kiln to fire evenly, it must be full. So I not only have to finish your custom order, but an entire kiln load of work X3! Sometimes the timing will work out for it to be a little faster. Just reach out and see where I am at.
Sizing details
All my pieces are labeled with relevant sizing in the body of the listing. Mugs, soap dispensers and honey pots all have volume included, for example. And soap dispensers also have the width of the base and width at the widest point so you can check to see if it will fit on your counter or sink.
Care instructions
My pottery is lead-free, food safe and microwave and dishwasher safe*. Handmade pottery is happiest when hand-washed, but it can go in the dishwasher.
However, if there is an addition, like a soap pump, please hand wash and do not put in microwave!
For soap dispensers:
Here are a few maintenance notes:
★ Regularly wipe off any build-up from pump with soft cloth to avoid corrosion.
★ Each time you refill dispenser, pump some warm water through pump. This is particularly important if you are using handmade soap.
★ Do not over tighten when screwing on pump.
★ If you even need a replacement pump, I sell them, at cost, for my customers here: https://goo.gl/n8cpua
Gift wrapping and packaging
I do not offer gift wrapping. It's hard to gift wrap and send pottery securely in the mail. But I am more than happy to include a personal note for any gifts. Just include it in the notes for your order. I do not include ordering/ pricing information so that will not be revealed to your gift recipient.
Wholesale availability
Please contact me directly if you are interested in wholesale. I do occasionally wholesale, but with limited items from my inventory. I prefer local locations because shipping can be prohibitive with fragile pottery!
