My Story

Hi! I’m Emma, the two hands and heart behind my glass jewellery business. Each and every piece you see in my shop is designed and created by me. Hot glass is fascinating and there is always something new to learn from this amazing material.

I started my glass journey at Sheridan College where I studied glassblowing in the Crafts & Design program, graduating in 2008. It was during my year as a teaching assistant that I first started my candy shop line, and opened my Etsy shop to share my glass gummies with the world.

After a few years as a resident artist and instructor in the flameworking studio at the Living Arts Centre, I decided to go back to school. I graduated from NSCAD University in 2013 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree where I primarily studied in the jewellery department.

Over 15 years after I first experienced hot glass, I continue to create fun and colourful one of a kind glass jewellery. I have exhibited my work both locally and internationally and, in non-pandemic times, can be found at many local craft shows.

Be sure to check out my shop to see my new glass jelly bean stud earrings!

Frequently asked questions
Wholesale availability

Q: Can I contact you with wholesale inquiries?
A: Of course! Please send an email with any wholesale inquiries to emma [!at] emmagerard.com

Is that Real Candy?

No. You would be surprised how often I am asked that. They are all handmade by me using small rods of glass and a torch. Please do not try to eat them, your dentist will be mad.

How do you make your work?

I use a variety of glass rods to sculpt and create pendants and beads. I begin in most cases by winding glass onto a clay dipped metal rod called a mandrel. From here I use heat, gravity, and a variety of tools to shape the glass. When finished the beads are brought down to temperature in a digitally controlled kiln.
