About

Ready-to-frame original fine art photography by Emma Polimac

ABOUT ME:
I am a photographer and film graphic designer living in Toronto, Canada.

I have a bit of an eclectic background. I grew up in Bristol, England, I studied art and art history in high school (along with literature and pure mathematics which really confused the careers advisor) and went on to complete the Architecture program at Sheffield University. I took a year out here and there to travel (India, Australia, places with better weather) and moved to Canada - for love! - after I graduated in 1998. I worked in various architecture practices in Toronto before realising that world wasn't for me and discovering there was more varied and creative work to be had in the film industry. I've worked in the film business since 2004, not only as a graphic designer but as an art director and set decorator, also as a theatre set designer.

I first picked up a camera in my teens and spent countless hours experimenting with my first SLR. In recent years I've returned to these roots and begun to regard my love for creating photographs as more than just a pastime; I held a well-received solo exhibition of 21 pieces in 2011 and was also included in the Fall 2013 Catalogue of the Elaine Fleck Gallery of Contemporary Fine Art in Toronto. More recently I've provided pieces for healing spaces such as the new pop-up studio for Hotel Yoga and Fitness in downtown Toronto.

ABOUT MY ARTWORK:
For me photography is a way to feel connected with and appreciate more vividly the world around me. The process of creating and sharing a photograph is like I am calling attention to a story, a feeling, a treasure I found, something I thought was important, and inviting the world to share it with me.

My pieces capture the man-made and natural environments, which each provide a rich fabric of elements to work with and which I have at my fingertips here in beautiful Ontario, and on my various travels. A glimpse, a feeling, a moment in time, or an idea can be preserved to further explore at a later point. It fascinates me how sometimes the resulting image will recreate faithfully my original experience of the subject (for example the "Dawning" series) and at other times it subtly changes the moment or calls to mind some other emotion, situation, memory or idea. These little slices in space and time, which perhaps many people would overlook or dismiss, are extracted and offered for reinterpretation (for example "The Embrace").

Visually I am drawn to texture and to sculptural forms, to the impact of colour and especially of light. I welcome incidental flares of light and the slightly grainy images that are sometimes the product of lighting; I find that these can really enhance the way the photograph captures the mood the subject evokes for me. The prints are processed to bring out the most subtle colour gradations, and printed on papers with textures that again enhance the feel of the image as much as possible.

I love the sense of history in my subjects; the infinite timelessness of nature, and the marks left on and by time in the man-made. In both environments I feel, and seek to express, the mystery of their hidden or implied stories.

ABOUT MY SHOP:
I am thrilled to become part of the Etsy online community; I think the global online marketplace is the future for artists and craftspeople like myself to be able to affordably, efficiently and easily put our work out there in the form we choose, to reach the people who will get the greatest pleasure from what we have to offer.

Thank you for visiting EmmaPPhotography and for your interest in my ready-to-frame original fine art prints!

My aim is to make artwork that is accessible and convenient for my customers; the prints are available in various standard sizes as listed, but do contact me if you'd like a custom size to fit a favourite frame or a particular spot on the wall you have in mind. Art is not just for galleries - it can work with your decor scheme too!

I sell all my prints unframed, to keep your shipping costs down and to give you the choice of framing or mounting to your personal taste or requirements.

The standard print sizes I offer are selected to work with frame sizes commonly available from department and high street stores, photo processing and art supply stores. The sizes given include a 2" or 3" border around the actual image (also containing my signature and the title of the piece). You can choose whether to insert a matte in your frame or not - I personally love seeing the texture of my printing papers and prefer the clean look of leaving them as is! The only exceptions are some of the smaller vintagey-look prints which have a thinner border for a retro look (these are signed on the back) - these prints are designed to look good in a standard 12x12 square frame either matted or mounted to the frame backing. I can provide the backing with the print upon request.

Payment
I accept payment by credit card, debit card and Etsy gift card.

I use local printers, whose care and attention to detail I love, to process my prints. Your order will be shipped within 5-7 business days and I will notify you when it's on its way. I will always keep you updated if there is a delay for any reason.

Orders cannot be cancelled or altered once printing has been ordered but you can add to your order at any time.

There is no additional sales tax, prices are as quoted.
Shipping
I ship by Canada Post within Canada, the US and worldwide. Standard delivery is within 4-6 business days for Canada and the US, 4-6 weeks by surface mail for all other locations. You can choose to upgrade your shipping at extra cost if you would like your items sooner: 2-3 business days within Canada and the US, other locations vary but by air are all between 4-10 business days. Please be aware that in November and December the "Christmas rush" is likely to make shipping a little slower so do allow extra time just in case.

If you live in a country not specifically listed in my delivery options, please contact me about shipping cost as I may be able to reduce it for you from the price quoted under "Everywhere Else".

Any customs duties and taxes incurred in shipping to the U.S. or other locations will be the responsibility of the buyer - it should only be a small amount if anything at all but it is impossible to control accurately from this end!

The shipping cost includes insurance and delivery confirmation to save unnecessary worry. In the unfortunate event that your items arrive with damage please contact me immediately so I can replace them for you.

I pack the prints myself to ensure they are well protected to arrive in perfect condition as they left me. I generally pack them flat but occasionally larger sizes shipping to certain countries have to be rolled due to size restrictions.
Refunds and Exchanges
I hope that my customers will always be 100% satisfied with their purchases from me but do contact me if you have any problem at all and I will work with you to resolve it to your satisfaction. I would rather offer a full refund or a replacement/alternative item at no charge than have anybody leaving my store unhappy!
Additional policies and FAQs
All prints are processed to bring out the very best in the image, in high quality digital inkjet on professional grade papers designed to last. I sell them unframed to keep shipping costs down and also to give my customers their own choice of framing or mounting to their taste and requirements.

A NOTE ABOUT FRAMING: Professional framing will maximise the life of the print at its best - professional framing protects the papers and inks from environmental damage by securely sealing them in safe non-reactive materials. You can also select less reflective glass for the best visibility and you will have a wide choice of frame finishes to choose from to fit with your decor and the print. It is of course more costly.

There are plenty of very affordable ready-made options available through high street photographic and art supply stores, and department stores etc. I do caution against using dollar store options or Ikea frames for anything other than temporary use as they often contain chemicals which can leach into the paper and cause discoloration - I learned this myself the hard way! Artist supply stores are a great resource for simple gallery style frames at very reasonable prices, especially for the larger sizes.
