So ... my name is Emma. I began potting as a bit of me time when my eldest child turned 5. I started by attending evening classes at Wobage in Upton-Bishop in Herefordshire. Under the friendly guidance of Jeremy Steward I slowly began to make pieces that weren’t too wonky!

My daughter is now nearly twenty and my son nearly 17 and I still attend an evening class with Jeremy! I love the friendship and support from lovely people as well as still going and doing something just for me! Wood-firing is also an absolute passion of mine - hopefully one day I may even be able to build my own!

I also have a great studio in my garden - courtesy of my husband; his diy skills and dedication to eBay hunting for suitable materials.

In 2019 my daughter encouraged me to put my work out there - I think she was getting anxious that the house might become consumed by my pots! Since then I have taken part in H’Art as well as an exhibition at the Weavers Gallery in Ledbury as well as other small events. Sadly then COVID arrived and we have all been on hold since.

In June 2020 I decided to give Etsy a try. I absolutely love the interaction with customers and the huge sense of delight I get from posting my work off to houses all over the UK and Europe. So far all is going well and it is encouraging me to explore new techniques, glazes, shapes and sizes all the time.

I would love to get to the position when I can decrease the amount of hours I work in my day job and fill the time with clay ... still small steps.

Well that is kind of me in a nutshell. I also love cooking; gardening; sailing; sewing; reading and chatting with friends and family - as well as playing with my dog and cats.

I struggle to do much on social media - although I do now have an Instagram account - 🙌🏻🙌🏻 emma_thomas_pottery.

Jeremy runs the evening course at Wobage in Herefordshire - where I learnt to pot over 10 years ago. He still oversees the wood-firing that is undertaken as a group of fellow potters. For more information see his website www.jeremysteward.co.uk
