BREAST CANCER AWARENESS | That's Changing the Conversation

Hi! I'm Emily! I'm an artist and mama turned breast cancer survivor and entrepreneur living in Wisconsin with my husband & our magical little girl. In 2017, less than a month after I turned 31, I was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer.

I LOVE a good graphic tee, so before I started treatment, I went looking for a shirt to wear to every chemo; something that empowered me to get my ass out of bed and off to treatment. Something that made me feel strong... and I just wasn't finding it. I quickly noticed a pattern in the breast cancer awareness apparel I was seeing: pretty pink positive messages of hope, faith & finding a cure.

But in that moment, I just wanted a shirt that was breast cancer related that wasn’t pink.

I also needed it to make me LAUGH, because I was sad.
I also need it to EMPOWER me, because I was feeling the opposite.

Don’t get me wrong! I have definitely leaned in on those messages throughout my treatment and I try to be the best advocate I can for metastatic breast cancer and a cure. I also lovvvvve pink - it’s one of my favorite colors! But my personal style consists of a lot of black and white with pops of my favorite colors. So in my mind, I was thinking something like....

Little did I know, that experience would never leave my mind and lead me to this little shop. Throughout treatment, I shared my experience on Instagram and Facebook. I knew that being a young mom who chose to have flat closure reconstruction set me apart. I also know that 1 in 8 women will join the "sisterhood"... because cancer doesn't give a damn what age you are.
When I finished IV chemo treatments and started feeling better, I began bringing my design ideas to life. I started with a small t-shirt-shirt fundraiser. I needed to raise money for medical care and costs associated with treatment and graphic art is the way I knew how - it’s been my hobby for many years.

Then one day after my double mastectomy in November 2017, I woke up and looked in the mirror. What happened at that moment changed my life; even though I knew my breasts were gone and I was looking in the mirror for the exact purpose of looking at my new scars (it was the first time I was looking at my chest post-surgery): I didn't even notice for a few seconds that they were gone. That few seconds of not being phased by my appearance was so strong and empowering, that I launched EMPOWERHAUS later that night. In that moment the perfect name came to mind:

Emily + Empower + Powerhouse = EMPOWERHAUS

And for the first time in my life, I realized that I was beautiful and that my breasts had absolutely nothing to do with that. I was still a woman. I was still worthy. I was still beautiful.

TO HONOR, ADVOCATE & EMPOWER: by creating designs with powerful messages that encourage real, truthful conversations about women's rights, human rights and patient rights.

You can feel amazing when you purchase from this shop because in addition to supporting the recipient, you are also supporting me: a disabled breast cancer survivor who is trying her best to contribute to her family's financial needs through art and advocacy. I'm not a gigantic corporation :)

All my love,

Emily Hopper

Frequently asked questions
Do you do custom orders?

At this time I do not accept custom orders, but hope to offer this in the future!

What does "MADE TO ORDER" mean?

All items at EMPOWERHAUS are "made to order". This means that your item isn't printed until you place an order.

I (Emily Hopper/EMPOWERHAUS) create all the designs that are on the items in my shop out of my home in Wisconsin. My production buddies over at PRINTFUL (located in Cali) physically print my designs on the items & then ship the item to you :)

IT SHOULD ARRIVE AT YOUR DOOR WITHIN: 1.5 to 3 business weeks (a business week is M-F) on average, but sometimes longer for international orders (sometimes earlier!)

How long does it take for items to arrive?

For USA customers: Usually between 1-2 business weeks (a business week is M-F) on average, but sometimes longer (sometimes earlier!)

For INTERNATIONAL customers: Usually between 2-3 business weeks (a business week is M-F) on average, but sometimes longer (sometimes earlier!)

Do you accept cancellations?

Yes! BUT, I can only cancel your order while your order is in "waiting for fulfillment" status. Therefore, you must contact me within *6 hours* to cancel your order, no more than 12 hours.

Do you accept returns?

No, my apologies. I do not accept returns for multiple reasons.

- Due to the "made to order" nature of items in the shop: these t-shirts are made just for you (they aren't printed until you purchase)

- Due to hygienic reasons.

PRETTY PLEASE ensure you read each listing in full to ensure the correct size/item is ordered, as I cannot accept returns or swapping for a different size. All of the information you need, including size charts are included in the listing.

However, if my printing company made a mistake (such as the wrong item was sent, or there was a manufacturer defect with it), I'm more than happy to replace it.

If you have any questions about the product, please message me first :)

Do you accept exchanges?

We do not accept exchanges if a wrong size was ordered (please read each listing in full to ensure the correct size/item is ordered). If you have any questions about sizing or the product, please message me first :)

However, if Printful made a mistake, such as the wrong item was sent or there was a manufacturer defect with it, we will be happy to replace it.

Do you offer a discount for those battling cancer?

Yes! Please message me with your story (type/stage) and will be happy to provide a discount

Care instructions

- T-shirts may me somewhat stiff from printing/press process
- T-shirts may have printing process/ink scent
- T-shirts may have ink remnants from the printing process

99% of the time, these issues are resolved by simply washing the shirt before wearing!

1. Machine-wash on cold, inside-out on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent and like colors. ** Use non-chlorine bleach only when necessary. You shouldn't use any fabric softeners, or dry-clean the items.

2. Hang dry works best, but if that cannot be achieved, tumble-dry on a low cycle.

3. When it comes to ironing, use cool iron inside-out. Do not iron the print.
