About epicfarms

Sales 53
On Etsy since 2008

How did we get started? Well, it was sort of an accident...

While our original plan was to buy and sell horses, I learned very quickly that if a horse came to this house and I spent more than 5 minutes with it, it stayed. Friends and family would roll their eyes and tell me to at least sell some of them. Obviously, it didn't take long before we were horse poor (but HappyHappyHappy). In addition to the horses we bought on purpose, we picked up some rescues along the way by *cough* accident. We did manage to actually sell one of our "accidental rescues" to a family we knew, but when she no longer suited their horse needs, (they became involved in showing) she came right back. I taught riding lessons for awhile which, in addition to a full time job, helped pay the bills but it didn't seem to be a very good fit for us (neither the two-legged nor four legged folks around here were overly enthusiastic about the idea ;o)

With so many horses ending up in rescues, slaughterhouses, or simply abandoned to starve, I was hesitant to sell (or give away) any of them lest they wind up meeting that same terrible fate. Somewhere along the line we began casually inviting friends and people we knew to come see the horses, which we really enjoyed. Shortly after we began doing so, I was invited to speak to some middle school students who were reading "Black Beauty". I had an absolute BLAST doing that :o) The casual visits slowly morphed into an unofficial educational venture, and it wasn't long before I realized that there is no greater joy than can be found in sharing something that's near and dear to your heart with others. Hooray! I had finally figured out what I was going to do with all those horses!

Why a non-profit?
Okay, I figured out my passion in life is to share our horses with the world, now what? How do I do that exactly? The more I looked in to what I wanted to accomplish, the further in over my head I realized I was (hmmmmm). I wanted to be able to share all this cool stuff with anyone that was interested ~ especially those that have never been around horses and not just people with the ability to pay. It's great in theory to simply fling open the proverbial barn doors and invite everyone to come learn, but in reality (which is the quickest way to ruin all your fun) that doesn't work at all. Epic Farms became an official 501c3 non profit in 2008.

My first Etsy shop, Wysiwigs (What you see is what you get *smile*), was opened to help support my creative endeavors. Not long afterward, I decided to combine my love (okay, obsession) of art, crafting and critters with the farm's need for fundraising and opened Epic Farms on Etsy. In today's economy, donations can be hard to come by so diversification is crucial - particularly for the small non profit. We'll call it "Plan E", shall we?

I hope you enjoy your visit to our little shop, and remember: Happiness is a horse, of course!

Welcome!
♥ ♥ All of our proceeds are donated to Epic Farms, Inc., a 501c3 non profit corporation ♥ ♥
The shop inventory takes considerable time and care to create and curate; and as much as I love doing this, please remember that I also have a full-time job, a family, and eight horses to care for too.
If I make a mistake PLEASE convo to let me know and we will work together to resolve it; it is my goal to generate repeat business so it is in my best interest to produce happy customers (and it's lots more fun that way, too!)

♥ ♥ CARE & CONSIDERATION ♥ ♥ I truly care about my art, my shop, and my customers. I try to be considerate of others and ask that you do the same. I would ask that you remember to leave your feedback when you receive your purchase. If there is a problem with your order, please be kind enough to let me know before you leave any negative feedback. Feedback is terribly important to your shopkeepers as it is the best way to let others know about your wonderful shopping experience here :o)
