Announcement   Unique handmade patchwork, eco-friendly & upcycled goods! Ericainthetrees specializes in custom and one-of-a-kind clothing and accessories using high quality fabrics.

My love of patchwork is evident in many of my one-of-a-kind pieces. As a huge fan of the Grateful Dead, Phish and many other jam bands, I have been truly inspired by all the wonderful artists that make a living selling their unique wares on the lot and living a hippie lifestyle. When time allows, I like to hit the road too and take my shop traveling to festivals and other shows. Most of the time though, you will find me here in my own little corner of the Internet! A few years ago I started creating items with eco-friendly materials, mostly hemp & organic cotton, and occasionally soy and bamboo. I've also started upcycling previously loved clothing, trying to reduce my carbon footprint (and thus yours too) as much as I can. My favorite fabrics to upcycled are cotton jerseys (ie t-shirt material), as they are so soft and comfortable.

Thanks for taking a moment to stop by and look. I am truly grateful for all the wonderful people who support handmade!

Feel free to convo me if you have any questions or are interested in a custom. You can also contact me through my regular email: ericainthetrees [!at] gmail.com, just be sure to say something descriptive in the title, so I know it's not spam. ;)

If you’re on facebook please stop by and friend me as well Here I post my newest items and many discounts: www.facebook.com/ericainthetrees

Please make sure to read my shop policies for the fine details!

About

For the love of sewing.

It all started in 1996 during my sophomore year in college. I decided to jump on the bus, so to speak, and follow the band Phish across the country. I needed a way to fund my travels, so my roommate and I decided to sew patchwork clothing. I was always inspired by these beautiful clothes, but I'd never sewn anything besides a few things for myself. With the help and encouragement of my friends, I managed to make quite a few items in time for summer tour. That was many years ago. After college, I put away the sewing machines for the most part to pursue my career, taking them out only on special occasions. However, when we moved to Oregon in 2008, I decided to start sewing again in my free time. This sparked my passion, and in 2010, I decided to commit to sewing on a full time basis. When I can, I still love to travel to shows, hitting up Furthur, Phish and music festivals along the way. My inspiration comes from the natural beauty that surrounds me everyday, the dresses and beautiful patchwork I see in the jam band community, and the beautiful creations my grandmother has made over the years. When I’m not sewing I love to garden, hike, bike, ski, read, play with my animals, travel, see live music, and support my husband in his own live music adventures. We are a very creative family!

A seamstress full time since 2010, and a hobby sewer for years before that, I am pursuing my dream to sew, travel, and work from home. I live in Bend, Oregon with my amazing husband, two beautiful pups and one ornery cat! I'm a one woman show.

Thanks for taking a minute to read about my shop! Everything is sewn on my Viking Husqvarna machines (both regular stitching and serged). I straight stitch, serge all edges, and top stitch where needed. You can be sure my clothes are built to last! I still have all the items I’ve made for myself over the years. My appliqués are all hand drawn, heat bonded and satin stitched, so rest assured they will not come apart! Everything I create is something I would wear myself.

I would recommend hand washing and air drying to ensure the longest life, but I have and do machine wash my items on the gentle cycle (although I recommend lingerie bag if you do). I also pre-wash all my materials in a gentle detergent to ensure there is no shrinkage after construction. Also note that hand-dyed materials are just that, and may contain slight color variations. This is the nature of hand-dyed.

All of my items come from a smoke-free, pet-friendly house. I take care to keep all animal hair from arriving with your shipment, but if you are allergic I would recommend washing prior to use.

Accepted payment methods

  • Accepts Etsy gift cards

Payment
My preferred method of payment is through PayPal. I also accept Direct Checkout and will accept personal checks and money orders (please let me know this is how you are paying), but will not ship your item until payment has been cleared by the bank (usually 5-7 business days). I expect payment within 3 days of purchase or I reserve the right to cancel your sale and relist the item. If you are having problems with this time frame, please convo me. If you would like to discuss other payment options, please convo me prior to purchase. I can usually accommodate these requests. As long as you maintain communication, we can work something out! If you are interested in layaway, I can hold an item, but please realize that if you are not able to complete your payment in a timely manner (we will discuss the details), I refuse the right to cancel the sale, less 10%, to cover the costs of holding an item and fees incurred. For custom orders, I require half down before I will begin constructing your item, and then the final payment prior to shipping. If you cannot complete payment on a custom item within 1 month of it's completion, I reserve the right to cancel the sale and you forfeit your 50% deposit, or add a fee for any additional time needed to complete the transaction.
Shipping
Most items ship US Postal Service Priority Mail with delivery confirmation unless otherwise specified. Item will be shipped flat rate envelope or box, unless the item is too big/small for this method, in which case it will be shipped regular rate Priority Mail. Item will be shipped within 2 business days of receiving payment. If you desire another shipping option, need a rush order, insurance, etc. please convo me at time of purchase and I will adjust the price accordingly. All items over $100 in value (whether it's paid value or actual value of item) will now include insurance, to ensure the product is covered if lost or damaged during shipping. Shipping prices vary depending on the item purchased, so please see individual listing for pricing.

International customers and customers outside the continental United States please contact me prior to purchase so I can give you an accurate shipping quote. Also please note that customs may delay shipping and buyer assumes all responsibility once the item leaves the country.
Refunds and Exchanges
Refunds on all pre-made items will be issued in the form of store credit (exchanges) 1 year from purchase date if the item is returned with 1 week of receiving and has been unwashed, unworn, contains no smells or pet hair. If you are requesting a custom item, or made to order, please ensure you are giving accurate measurements or ordering your correct size, as I cannot give refunds based on the wrong size ordered. If you’re unsure about something, convo me so I can help you determine fit. If you are unhappy with your purchase and would like to discuss an alteration, please convo me as well. Buyer will assume all return shipping costs. In the case of a defect, please contact me within 2 days of receiving the item so we can discuss the issue and decide where to go. Once an item has been washed, worn, or otherwise used, no exchange or return will be accepted regardless of problem.
Additional policies and FAQs
I strive to make all of my items unique. However, I reserve the right to re-use appliqué design and materials. If you are truly interested in a one-of-a-kind, never reproduced appliqué, please consider a custom order and let me know this will be OOAK, never to be used again. I welcome all custom requests! Because of the nature of customs, prices can vary greatly and will generally cost more than a pre-made design. I will also require a deposit of half down prior to starting any work.

Please use the etsy messaging system when contacting me with any questions you might have. I do my best to respond to all messages within 1-2 business days.

Please respect my creativity and do not copy my designs.
