Gorgeous! I'm using this as an accent piece at the moment but will be happy to use it for food storage in the near future. AND really beautiful packaging! Best I've seen in a long time - just opening it was exciting.

The rare case where the real item is even nicer than the picture. The image on the site doesn't totally capture the beautifully layered textures of this bowl. I love it. Also it came very carefully and artfully wrapped, and packaged with great care for shipping. Won't be the last piece of pottery I buy from Eri.

Beautiful! I love it. I'll be keeping it right next to my stove and using it for sea salt.

First of all, my items arrived so beautifully wrapped inside the box and bubble wrap that I didn't even open them for 2 more days. This mug is so expertly finished, the design so beautiful and intricate, that I'm not sure I want to put anything in it. I've long admired Eri's work, and this will not be the last time I order, I'm sure. Quick shipping and careful packaging. Highly recommend!

Really beautiful tea cup with fabulous contrast between the rough matte outside and smooth glossy inside. Intricate design, expertly finished. A small treasure. Many thanks!

About Eri Sugimoto
Eri’s work is functional pottery which is mainly thrown on a wheel. She creates the pattern on each piece by hand-cutting paper, then laying it out so as to be unique and dynamic using the body of the piece as a canvas. She tries to make two-dimensional patterns look three-dimensional through placement of the design on the organic curve. The techniques of asymmetry and dynamic composition in her pottery may have been influenced by her experience studying Japanese Middle Ages art on folding screens, ink paintings, sliding screen paintings, and illustrated scrolls in her early days as an art history student.
The form of her pottery is as significant as the pattern. Beautiful, organic and functional : these are the elements that she always keep in mind. In addition, she is always seeking the infinite variety of combinations of clay and slip that will make the pattern look as beautiful as possible.
Her work is not only for special occasions but also for daily use. She hope is always that each piece will become one of the joyful elements in someone’s life.
Eri met the world of clay and started with hand-building pottery while working as a product designer in Tokyo. After moving to the US, she started to learn wheel throwing. She has been enjoying exploring and challenging her creativity in her studio.
