About

This is the heroine’s deed...

Renown San Francisco artist Harriet Grannis Moore created the daring “Erotic Candlesticks” sculptures in 1978. She disclosed that:

“The artist moves out of the society that would have protected her, into the dark forest, into the world of fire, of original experience. The artist must face trials and bring a whole new body of possibilities into the field of interpreted experience for others to experience. This is the heroine’s deed.”

Harriet sold all limited editions of bronzes as well as the master bronzes at 4K a set over a couple of decades ago. However, the master molds had been stored at ArtWorks Foundry in Berkeley, California, where the candlesticks were originally cast in bronze.

Almost forgotten, the original master molds were retrieved in 2015 by a daughter of Harriet’s (duly appointed as conservator). The molds were found to be still in usable conditions.

To honor her life and work as an artist, her family decided to cast bonded bronze sculptures of the candlesticks. Having spent nearly a decade under her artistic tutelage, Tom (her son-in-law) stepped up to craft these absolutely unique candlesticks again.

While not cheap, bonded bronze (or "cold-cast" bronze) art retains the look of hot-cast bronze at a fraction of the cost, and making art a much more accessible experience to the public.
