Essie's S.E. (Spinning Etc). - Spinning and items related to spinning!

Essie's S.E. is all about “Spinning, Etc.” with an emphasis on "Etc." I make basic spindles in assorted weights, bottom and top whorl styles for spinning everything from lace weight to bulky yarns. Kits to make silk hankies and caps (mawatas) came about after experimenting with various materials to find some that work well for this unique process. Silk in all forms is fascinating and I sell cocoons of the usual mulberry silkworm (Bombyx mori) and some of the semi-wild species of India and China - Eri, Muga, and Tussah. My daughter, Beth Peregrine, enjoys making jewelry from cut and dyed cocoons for my shop.

I also offer finished products from my hand reeled silk and hand spun yarn, as well as some fiber-related vintage tools.

Thus the name of my shop: Essie's S.E.

My fiber interests are vertically integrated. I’ve spun just about every fiber I find, but especially love silk: raising silkworms; reeling and spinning yarn; weaving and knitting the resulting threads and yarns. I like creating fiber tools.

I grew up surrounded by all of the different fiber related activities my mom has done. I've gravitated towards embroidery, needle felting, and silk cocoon jewelry making. I like to make things with a pop of color and that put a smile on others faces.
