About

Beautiful Hand-Knits in Natural Fibers

A dozen years of systemic lupus led to my early retirement from Internal Medicine practice. I turned to crafting to pass the time, and fell in love with the needlecrafts from my childhood-knit and crochet.
Knitting daily made me excited to learn more, so I read extensively and watched videos, studying fiber history, construction, design processes... I loved the new techniques and fibers I was exploring, and put them to work in products that I designed myself.
Now I design things that I love and offer them for sale. I share knowledge about the ecology of needlework-the natural fibers I use, the sustainability of my products-along with the joy of using them.
In my shop you may find items made from soy, bamboo or corn fiber, angora, cashmere, alpaca and wool, and many other beautiful yarns. I prefer not to use acrylic and polyester, imports from nations that use underpaid labor, and products that result from cruel treatment of animals.

When I retired early from medicine due to long-standing lupus, I let my inner knitter take over. The result is my two Etsy stores and my membership at the Chattanooga Public Market. I love natural fiber and environmentally sound practices.

Thank you for shopping the Turtlefat Collection. I knit and crochet one of a kind items from the finest materials, with a strong preference for natural fibers. I love the increasing availability of organic and recycled yarns. I frequently use fibers from developing countries where raising herds and spinning yarn supports the stabilization and growth of communities and the education of the world's children.

Additional policies and FAQs
You are buying a handmade item that has taken many hours of design and hand work. I dearly love each item that I make, specifically matching the yarn to the design, and doing all of the knitting and crochet myself. If you'd like to know more about the process by which any piece is made, please contact me.
