Custom made exactly to my preferences. It's so unique - the stone, the setting, all of it! Arrived in a nice little package with care instructions, too. :)

this is one of my new fave necklaces. I like to call this look the Land and Sky collection: the texture of the blackened silver reminds me of topography and the little gold orbs remind me of the constellations :)

Handcrafted jewelry by Esther Kao

My journey in jewelry has been evolving since I made my first pieces five years ago. In 2009, I got married and made my bridesmaids necklaces. I remember carefully choosing the czech glass beads and brass charms that went into making them. From there, I was hooked. I loved that I could make my own jewelry instead of buying it. I started experimenting with more materials – lace, gold plated charms, then moving on to semi precious stones and 14k gold chain.

Somewhere along my journey, I started feeling inadequate as a jewelry maker. To me, it felt like a cop-out to be buying pre-made charms and stones from other vendors, stringing them on chain, and saying I made it. I wanted to truly create my jewelry from scratch. So I enrolled in metalsmithing classes at my local craft guild.

Nearly two years have gone by, and I've learned so much about soldering, stone setting, fabrication, and casting. I have found that I have a deeper sense of ownership over my jewelry pieces, now that I can claim that I made a necklace or a ring from start to finish. Learning about metalsmithing has deepened my passion for making jewelry. I hope that each of my pieces is a good indicator of that passion and dedication to craftsmanship and unique design.

And I'm excited to see where my journey in jewelry takes me next!

Additional policies and FAQs
Current turnaround time:
Most pieces are made to order, and will take 2-3 weeks from the date of purchase before shipping. You will receive an email letting you know your jewelry is on its way once I am done. I am a one-woman shop, and while I'd love to promise a quicker turnaround, I have to be realistic with my time and my work/life balance. However, if you are in a rush, please contact me and I'll see what I can do to get your piece done sooner.

What materials do you use to make your jewelry?
My pieces are made from sterling silver, fine silver, and 14k gold. Any piece that has been oxidized has been either hand patinaed, or has had a layer of black rhodium plated on the selected areas. If you have a nickel allergy, please be aware that your skin may also react to anything with the black rhodium plating on it. If you have any questions about the finishes I use on my pieces, please contact me.

Do you take custom orders?
I am happy to chat about designing a piece just for you. If you are interested in a custom piece, feel free to contact me. Please be aware that any pieces that have been custom made are not returnable.
