About

I make ceramic objects of all sorts, for all purposes, for fame and profit. :D

etcArts (etcetera•arts) is the business name for ceramic artist/potter Eric Sewell, who has been doing this thing off and on for over 15 years.

The short story is I've been making ceramic work (somewhat) steadily since college and etcArts is the business/brand/entity that I create work as/under. This online presence was established in 2007, maintained regularly until about 2014 or so, and then rebooted in June 2017.

The LONG(er) story is that I, Eric (that's me, writing this) became interested in clay while pursuing an art degree of some sort in college. After graduation I applied to graduate schools, taught college level design and illustration, worked as a production artist, and worked as a tech support trainer for a medical software company, at various times, over a period of 12 years (with some gaps and/or overlap in chronology in there.) Over that time I've gotten to a place where I have the equipment and space to create things and sell them and pay the mortgage.

Currently this is my primary venue for selling work, but I should have some this and that in various locales around Lincoln, Nebraska in the near future.

My current work is all "high fire" porcelain or white stoneware functional pottery and jewelry, while my older work (basically anything prior to 2010) is all "low fire" white and red earthenware.

I only use non-toxic, food safe glazes in my work unless otherwise noted. All work is food, dishwasher, and microwave safe unless otherwise noted. Hand washing is always recommended for heavily textured or delicate pieces.

There may be very slight differences in the color/tonality of the photos versus the actual item. Every effort is made to represent the piece as accurately as possible, but also I hate taking photos of my work. I'll figure it out some day.

Returns and exchanges
I don't accept returns, exchanges, or cancellations
But please contact me if you have any problems with your order.
Returns and exchange details
Please let me know if there are any problems with your order. I can't do anything about items lost in the mail if there is no tracking information, so do consider selecting Priority Mail delivery.

RETURNS AND EXCHANGES ARE UNAVAILABLE, PERIOD. SHIPPING CERAMIC WORK CAN BE WORRYING EVEN WITH THE BEST PACKAGING, SO I'D RATHER NOT HAVE ANYTHING TAKE MORE TRIPS THAN NECESSARY - I.E. DON'T SHIP MY WORK BACK TO ME. PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION OF THE ITEM AND ASK QUESTIONS!!!

REFUNDS ON BROKEN WORK ARE ONLY AVAILABLE IF THE PACKAGE IS INSURED - I STRONGLY RECOMMEND SELECTING PRIORITY MAIL FOR THE INCLUDED INSURANCE. I MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO PACKAGE YOUR ITEMS SAFELY AND SECURELY, BUT THINGS DO BREAK IN THE MAIL.
Payment
Payment must be received before shipping. Nebraska residents will be charged 7.25% sales tax, calculated automatically upon checkout. Customers who opt to pick up their order from me directly may also pay in person.
Shipping
Domestic orders (USA):

I ship items within 1-3 business days, though usually it will be closer to one day than three. Please check the listing and/or your invoice for shipping times. All shipping times are estimates.

Customers who are local to Lincoln may pick up their order - contact me for more information.

International orders:

International packages are shipped using International First Class Mail for items under 4 pounds or Priority International for heavier shipments. Please allow 4-6 weeks for the delivery of your international package.

You are responsible for all duty, customs, or any other charges imposed by your country above and beyond the USPS (United States Postal Service) postal charges that you already paid. These may be due when you pick up your package.

I will do my best to check on any restrictions of what can be shipped before I send out a package. If for some reason your purchase can not legally be sent to you, I will refund your money.

Charges for international mail can be hard to estimate. If I have over charged you for shipping, I will refund the difference.

---------------------------------------------------------

Packaging:

All items are packed with the utmost care -- wrapped in bubble wrap, air bags, and double boxed when necessary. I want you to receive your order in one piece! If the order breaks in the mail (and it is insured), I will work with you to file a claim. You will be able to choose a replacement, or I can refund your purchase (minus the paid shipping.)

I use a combination of new and clean, reused packing materials.

I do not include any sort of receipt or invoice in my packages - one can be printed from your Etsy order.
Additional policies and FAQs
Custom orders:

I can create (or recreate) most items in my shop though not always with the exact same clay, glaze, or look (think siblings or cousins instead of twins.) My turnaround time is typically 3-6 weeks though rush orders are possible.

Gift wrapping:

HAHA NOPE. If you've ever seen one of my wrapped packages you'd probably pay me to ensure I don't wrap your purchase. I make things out of clay, not paper and ribbon.

Consignment:

I am open to consignment for most all of my work - contact me for more information.

Wholesale:

I do not produce work for wholesale.

Gallery or other venue: I'm always looking for venues! Contact me for more information.
