About

Mapping Neighborhoods

What We Make
Etched Atlas started with a wedding gift for a close friend. A few birthday, wedding and Christmas gifts later we had the beginning of our company.

We love maps! They are beautiful, fun, and infinitely varied. Maps represent both the natural world and our experiences, which is why they make for artwork that is both gorgeous and meaningful.

How We Do It
All of our artwork is designed in-house. We use a variety of reference maps and open source data (shout out to Open Street Map!) to create unique designs you won’t find anywhere else. All of our pieces are engraved in our workshop using an Epilog laser.

Behind the scenes, we revel in developing products and processes that are efficient, effective and sustainable. That’s why we source our frames from the environmentally conscious company Picture Woods, Ltd, and why we spent more time than we’d like to admit searching for boxes that would allow us to ship our products with the least amount of packaging.

Who We Are: Julie + Matthew
We are a wife and husband team happily living in Maplewood, New Jersey. Julie handles all the design work and customer service while Matthew runs our workshop. Our dog Arthur is the social chair and is in charge of morale. He does an excellent job and probably deserves a raise.

We also get a huge amount of help from Susan Brand, our part-time map designer. She is an incredible artist in her own right, creating patterns, paintings and prints.

You will receive your order in 3-6 business days. (Processing time is 2-3 business days and shipping transit time is 1-3 days depending on your location.) We ship via USPS Priority Mail so you'll always have a tracking number to see where your package is. For shorter shipping transit time, choose Priority Mail Express at checkout.

Yes, we do! However, we are taking a short break from custom maps right now (we're just too busy!). We hope to start making custom maps again in May.

Yes, we often add names, dates, and small graphics like a heart or house icon to our standard maps. To add this kind of personalization to your map, choose "Yes" under "Add Personalization" when adding any map to your cart. Leave us a note at checkout with your desired personalization and we'll send you a proof of your artwork before we do any engraving.
