Evelynn Mubasa, owner of Evelynn's Boutique, motto: "Sewing is my perfect THERAPY!"

A few years ago, my Mom needed a French Memory Board. Since I was her personal shopper and with the help of my daughter, Erika, I purchased 3 different French Memory Boards for her to select. She didn’t like any of them. She didn’t like the colors, sizes, prints, or patterns. So I decided to make her one. She LOVED it!

My mother posted on her handmade French Memory Board pictures, greeting cards and notes from her grandchildren and friends. Our other family members, friends, siblings, nieces, nephews, and co-workers wanted me to make them one. So I started making them, and making them! This is how Evelynn’s Boutique was born.

Also, a few years ago, I started sewing again. At that time, I shopped at Minnesota Fabrics. Now, I currently shop at Hancock Fabrics and Joanne Fabrics for materials to hand make my French Memory Boards, women outerwear, neck pillows, one piece scarf mitten sets, boleros, serapes and matching serape pins, purses, totes, and a host of other items.

Since I was making a variety of handmade clothing items to sell at shows in Wisconsin and Illinois, I needed something to model them for my customers. I expressed to my husband, Marvin, that I needed a dress form to model all of Evelynn's Boutique's clothing. I suggested that I wanted him to assist me in creating my model. Not only did we make the dress form model, we also made model feet to display my cozy socks.

I named my dress form, Wendylu, short for Wendylucy. I chose this interesting name because whenever Marvin would come home, I would be in my sewing room. Since our sewing room is located downstairs, Mo would yell "Lucy, I'm home". I would respond "okay Ricky". The "Wendy" part of name came when we over emphasized the upper portion of the dress form. So this is how Wendylu was born. All of Evelynn's Boutique handmade clothing is modeled on my faithful, loyal and hard working model name Wendylu.

Evelynn's Boutique have customers in: Florida, Illinois, Minneapolis, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. With the help of Etsy, Evelynn’s Boutique plans to expand its handmade crafts and women outerwear throughout the world.
