    Bookish hand dyed yarn

Ex Libris is a Latin phrase often found on bookplates, and translates to “From the Library.” Ex Libris Fibers hand dyed yarns are bookish, moody, atmospheric, sometimes quirky, and commonly vintage-reminiscent.

With a background rooted in art and design, dyer Rita finds color inspiration in not only the stories, underrepresented ladies, and histories that fill library shelves, but more often the aesthetics of rare books, archives, aging libraries; and the ability of color and texture as a medium to share knowledge and tell stories. A crocheter since 2007, knitter since 2014, and dyer since 2017, Rita aims to create yarn that is subtle in its color variations no matter your craft, and meticulously mixes colors to achieve one-of-a-kind tones.

Each fiber base is judged on its ability to work up as luxuriously and affordably as possible so that you'll enjoy every moment of your needlework and own a finished object with lasting comfort and strength.

In never-ending efforts to minimize ecological impact, yarn is dyed in a home studio on a small scale, using sustainable practices including water conservation and air drying during warmer weather, energy efficient spin drying during cooler weather, and finally each skein is twisted and hand labeled. All wool is sourced from mulesing-free suppliers. Orders are transported to the post office by bicycle (safely tucked into waterproofed side bags) and packaged in recycled and recyclable materials.
