Welcome change.

My name is Nicole, and I'm a working mom/creative entrepreneur who spends her days slinging vintage dresses on Etsy & making peanut butter sandwiches.

I grew up going to thrift stores & yard sales with my grandma (Nanny) and she taught me how to look for hidden treasures. I used to be the weirdo dressed all crazy in funky clothes, trying to be different than everyone else in school.

In college, I moved into my first apartment complete with green shag carpet, and the inspiration for Exotic Pear Industries was born. After graduating and relocating to Charlotte, I had a short stint doing the real world 9-to-5 gig, but when I lost my job during the recession, I decided to learn how to make jewelry and started selling earrings & necklaces online. I also posted some of my vintage finds and things started to head in a new direction.

Now, as a first-time mom, Etsy provides me with the opportunity to hang out with my 4 year old son, Trey, and do what I love without changing out of my pajamas...

I've been focusing on growing my business as a vintage dress shop for the last year and a half, and I hope this year I'll be able to really expand! I love looking for unique finds and helping people create a one-of-a-kind look. Please don't hesitate to convo me to chat, request a lookout for a special item, or ask questions. Have a fun, exotic day!

I have loved buying and wearing vintage clothing, jewelry and accessories since I was in grade school. I started going to yard sales & thrift stores with my grandma (Nanny) when I was very young, and she taught me how to spot high quality, gently used items I fell in love with at first sight. I've collected many home decor items, dinnerware, and other unique finds, but I also love shopping for others.

My etsy shop allows me to combine a number of my favorite pastimes to create what I hope to call my full-time career one day. It also let's me spend time with my 3 year-old son, Trey, who loves to help me work. I love shopping, photography, fashion, writing, marketing, and sending/receiving mail! I also enjoy making lists, alliteration and lots of exclamation points, all of which you will find in my item descriptions!!!

I hope you enjoy browsing through the lovely dresses I've found for you, and I would love to see the fun, exotic life they live after they reach their new home. PLEASE take a moment to connect with me on Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest and/or tumblr, and send me pictures of your new threads in living color. I love creating stories about the person I think would wear them, and I'd greatly appreciate finding out how the story really goes...

The standard procedure for vintage items states ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Specific measurements have been listed for each item. Please know your measurements & if you need help measuring let me know. Sizes for vintage clothing run smaller than modern sizes & every brand is different so do not depend on the size to ensure a proper fit.

Exotic Pear Industries is not responsible for damage to a garment once it has been cleaned. Please read care tags or use a delicate cycle or hand wash fragile items. Dry clean only garments should be washed accordingly. Also, some wear & tear is normal for vintage clothing so there may be small holes in the seams or slight pulls in certain fabrics. Please use caution when caring for your new, old things.

It is VERY IMPORTANT you know your exact measurements when considering vintage purchases, as tag listed sizes vary greatly from current sizes & from brand to brand. If you have questions about where to take a measurement to get an accurate list of your measurements, please refer to the following chart:

The following are the measurements taken on my mannequin. Please note that a majority of my garments are plus size and special draping makes the garment fit the mannequin in the best possible way. Others maybe too small, in which case they are not completely zipper/buttoned, so please check all measurements carefully!

Shoulder to shoulder - 15"
Neck to Waistline - 16"
Waistline to Hem (bottom of dress form) - 14"
Waistline to hem (first cross section of metal cage) - 21"
Waistline to Hem (bottom section of metal cage) - 28.5
Bust - 35"
Waistline - 25.5"
Hips - 35"
Hem - 35"
Full length (from base of neck/shoulders to bottom of dress form) - 29.5"
Full length (to first cross section of metal cage) - 37"
Full length (to bottom section of metal cage) - 44"

Please note: these are the garment’s measurements, not yours! The best way to determine if an item will fit you is to measure one of your own similar pieces of clothing so you can compare its measurements to the garment I’m selling.

I measure items by laying them flat and measuring the chest, waist and hips, then doubling those measurements. I also measure the shoulders, length and/or inseam, if applicable (these measurements are not doubled).
All items should be paid in full at the time of purchase with a valid credit/debit card or gift card through Etsy, or with PayPal. I prefer & HIGHLY recommend using PayPal.

Some higher priced items (more than $150) in my shop can be purchased with a payment plan. Please contact me by convo to make arrangements. There will be a sale fee added to the overall price to cover additional Etsy fees associated with multiple transactions. This fee is minimal, and will be worked into your payment agreement. I look forward to finding these stunning items good homes, so I want to be sure the person who loves them as much as I do can afford them.

Once payment has been received in full, the item will ship within 24 hours, unless there is a holiday that would prevent special shipping (Express, overnight, international) to be completed by the post office, such as customs forms.
All items are carefully folded, wrapped in tissue paper, and mailed in poly plastic mailing envelopes. This is to insure proper protection from weather. Larger items maybe be shipped in a cardboard box, such as a wedding dress or shoes. They will also be protected by tissue paper and in some cases a plastic bag. A message will be sent to you confirming when your package has officially been mailed. Thank you for your patience!

Shipping costs cover PRIORITY USPS mail delivery which includes $50 insurance and a spiffy tracking number! If you would like additional insurance please message me with your request prior to placing your order.

Special rush delivery rates are available. Please contact me prior to paying for your purchase to make the proper adjustments to the shipping cost.

All items include $50 insurance issued by the USPS. If you would like additional coverage on your item(s), please let me know BEFORE purchasing, so I can make the proper adjustments to the shipping cost.

International orders typically ship first class. I have a general shipping cost listed for international shipping; however, please send me your address BEFORE placing your order so I can double check. Sometimes the price may be MORE or LESS! Your patience is appreciated as I learn the ropes of international shipping.

Import duties, taxes, and charges are not included in the item price or shipping cost. These charges are the buyer's responsibility. Please check with your country's customs office to determine what these additional costs will be prior to purchasing. You can also refer to this Etsy article for more information: https://www.etsy.com/blog/en/2010/shipping-how-to-custom-forms-duties-and-taxes/.

Also, while shopping for vintage clothing, I look for items that inspire me. If you have something in mind or you love a specific style of vintage items, we can make arrangements and I'll keep an eye out for something that is perfect for you!

Vintage materials often have flaws, but remember that some flaws add character to a vintage dress. The history is part of the appeal when you are dazzling others in such a striking, unique vintage dress!

Have fun wearing it & remember no one else will ever have on the same dress as you!!

SUGGESTION: When cleaning fabrics such as polyester or cotton, I have had success removing old & new dirt & miscellaneous stains with this spot treatment--apply isopropyl alcohol 70% to the area followed by a dab of blue, original Dawn dish liquid & rub into the spot. I suggest using a fingernail, folding a piece of the fabric around it over the spot & rubbing them together or using a very soft toothbrush to scrub the spot. Follow up with a generous amount of regular hairspray concentrated onto the spot. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes & then wash as directed.

Also, adding an equal amount of white distilled vinegar to your wash cycle will remove build up on durable, machine washable fabrics, eliminate most odors & work as a chemical free fabric softener!
