About the Artist:

I am a dyer, spinner, knitter, and budding felter. I try to work as closely as I can to the raw material. Nearly all of the items in my shop have been hand dyed by me in an environmentally conscious way. All items which are handspun, knitted, or felted are entirely made by me. I am a production specialist, but I don't have commercial capabilities. I am an artist at heart and a scientist at hand.

Items listed as OOAK (one of a kind) are simply that, one of a kind. I often use those to spur my creativity when I fall into a slump, so if you like a color, let me know. I might be able to devise a recipe for reproducibility.

I am environmentally conscious, so I work hard to use every bit of usable fiber for batts (the bits that come off the drum carder go into a bag for needle felting). I have also worked very hard on my dye recipes to make sure that the dyebaths fully exhaust, and the only thing that *might* go down the drain is a few stray strands of fiber and a touch of citric acid.

When you receive items from me, I encourage you to recycle everything (95% of my packaging materials are recyclable), and what can't be recycled in your local area, you can reuse or give to the birds (after all, I mostly sell fiber items).

Thanks for looking! I can be reached via etsy conversations, or by my e-mail address: expertlydyed [!at] zoho.com

About

Plying Science to Art

I am a dyer/spinner/wife/martial arts instructor/business owner/farmer. Many of the people out there also have chaotic schedules, and for some, perhaps even more. In our busy lives, it helps to find one thing that relaxes us--for me, that's dyeing and spinning.

My job is to bring to you the materials you need to feel empowered, be creative, and express yourselves. Let me know if there's anything you think I should add to my shop, since I'm really here for all of you.

I'm one of those people who always wanted to be artistic, but my hands could never do what I wanted them to do. When I finished my master's degree, I decided to apply my science background to art.

Expertly Dyed was born out of this genius amalgamation. I want to spur the desire to make all of you create, so I'm offering fabulous items for you to show off your mad science skills.

Payment
I accept Debit/Credit cards via Direct Checkout, PayPal, check, and money order. If you choose to send check or money order, please send me a conversation to let me know. Once I've received your payment (checks take 2-3 days to clear), I will send your item(s).

If you've chosen to send check or money order, I will allow 14 days from the date of the transaction before canceling the transaction and relisting the item(s).

If there are extenuating circumstances (notify me within the first 7 days after the transaction), I will consider extending the date for the transaction payment.

For all Illinois residents, an 8.75% tax will be applied.
Shipping
Most of my fiber and yarn items will be shipped via First Class. I will make sure to find shipping containers that won't tear open during shipping, and your item(s) will also have delivery confirmation.

**************************************************************************
I am now shipping internationally. Shipping will take longer depending on your location in the world (if you'd like an estimate, please indicate such in the "note to seller" at checkout). Insurance is also available, for an additional charge. Delivery confirmation comes standard. Thanks for the feedback I've received regarding worldwide shipping!

****************************************************************************
I ship as often as I can, and will usually mean I will ship your item the next day. I do not work on any orders over the weekend, so if an order is placed Friday after 5pm, it will not get worked on until Monday.

If you'd like to add insurance to your item, please send me a conversation so I can add it to your shipping charge.
Refunds and Exchanges
For all items, you have 14 days from receipt of the delivery to contact me regarding any defects or errors in purchased items. If you are unsatisfied with your purchase, please contact me within 30 days from receipt of the delivery.

Buyer agrees to pay shipping charges with Delivery Confirmation back to me. Upon arrival of the returned item(s), I will refund you the amount you paid, less shipping. If the item is no longer in the condition in which it was sold, a 40% fee will be applied to your refund.

Since all packages are sent with delivery confirmation, the package shouldn't get lost. Because I use shipping containers from the USPS or containers which are moisture resistant, your item(s) should arrive without getting damaged.
Additional policies and FAQs
**Custom Spinning (Currently Unavailable)

Are you in love with my fiber colors, but not a spinner? I can make a smooth yarn just for you in whichever color you choose from my shop (one-of-a-kind items not included). International shipping is available!

If you want me to make some yarn for you, please send me a conversation. I can begin offering you a discount on bulk custom spinning orders which include a minimum of 3 skeins. This offer cannot be combined by adding and extra skein to your order. Coupons cannot be used on custom spinning orders.

For the finished skein, I will apply the following rates for each skein of the finished yarn (the largest skein I can make is 4 ounces):

single: just cost of yardage*
2-ply: $1.50 more*
3-ply: $3.00 more*
4-ply: $3.75 more*

wool fibers: $0.15 per yard (merino, bfl, falkland, etc)*
luxury fibers: $0.18 per yard (silk, silk blends, etc.)*
rare fibers: $0.21-$0.50 per yard (it depends on how rare the fiber turns out to be)*

Because yardage is lost for multiple plies, I will apply the following rates for yardage:

$0.20 a yard for a 3-ply (wool)*
$0.25 a yard for a 4-ply (wool) *

$0.23 a yard for a 3-ply (luxury fibers)*
$0.28 a yard for a 4-ply (luxury fibers)*

Add $0.08 more per yard for 3-ply (rare fibers)*
Add $0.14 more per yard for a 4-ply (rare fibers)*

This pricing is to offset the extra worked involved in spinning multiple plies.

I am comfortable making fingering weight singles all the way up to superbulky 4-ply. If you would like more plies, please send me a conversation with your request. I'll see if I can work with you to get what you want. If you'd like me to add seed beads to your yarn, let me know before your order begins. They will be added for an additional charge (based on how often you'd like the beads placed).

Since your yarn will be made to order, please allow approximately 1 week for me to spin it for you. If you are requesting more than 8 ounces at a time, please allow 2-3 weeks. I will keep in contact with you throughout the order so you are aware of my progress.

If you'd like to get an idea of the costs, send me a conversation regarding the yardage you need, the number of plies, and the gauge of your yarn. I'll be able to estimate how much your custom order will be.**

*All prices are subject to change without notification.
**To be used as an estimate only, and not reflective of the final cost.
