"The Adventures of "The Fabled Hare"", an unfolding story of life and exploration of myth, folklore and reality through the eyes of the hare in visual art.

Born and raised in upstate New York, Denise Kelty is an artist whose strongest influences come from nature, earth science, anthropology, and multi-cultural folklore and mythology. She attended college at Munson Williams Proctor Institute of Art and transferred to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, completing a BFA with a concentration in sculpture as well as a 2nd BA in design. She remained in North Carolina as a practicing artist and graphic designer creating with mixed media, including photography, painting, drawing, bronze, concrete, stone, wood and ceramics. Having relocated to her hometown area of Schoharie County, NY in 2011, Denise continues to explore art with the influences of the environments and people that originally inspired her work:

"The Hare has been the theme of my work for several years now. I often use the hare to represent myself and tell a story. My grandparents raised rabbits for show, so having grown up around them has influenced my work since. I've always been fond of them and accustomed to their mannerisms. Eventually this, in combination with my interest in Celtic and Native American folklore, became a way for me to express myself. My strongest influence still, is the mystery I find in the physics of nature and its cycles, the earth sciences, and our relationship to our environment through history via anthropology, folklore and myth and how it effects past, present and future."

Growing up with rabbits as pets and close to grandparents who raised them, they became my muses, a way to express my love of folklore, myth and fantasy, with a hint of reality through art.
