Fabtastic Filigree
Hello. My name is Jamie and Fabtastic Filigree is the name of my shop. I make all things crocheted including the traditional afghan but not limited to it. I decided on this name because; what is better than being fabulous and fantastic? Filigree means ornamental work, usually with metal, but crochet is truly ornamental in nature. Just think about it as a crocheter I turn a series of knots into something beautiful.
I have been a crocheter for as long as I can remember. My father who died of Lung Cancer in 2008 taught me to crochet when I was a child. I even attempted to start a business in the third grade. I had a plastic travel soap dish that I would fill with simple crochet chains to create a friendship type bracelet. I took these bracelets to school and sold them for nickel each on the playground until I found out this was against the rules. The first project that I made of any size was a baby blanket for my sister’s first child when I was thirteen.
I am now 42 years old, a wife, and a mother of twins. I did get a BS in Business Administration with a minor in Graphic Arts. In 2002 after graduation, I moved from rural Kentucky to Maryland and worked for the Federal Government. My girls were born in 2010. In 2011 I received a diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). In 2012 my illness was to much. I went on disability retirement and moved back home. I have been wanting to do something since then and finally decided this was something I could do that MS could not take from me. So here we are. I am giving it a go.
