Welcome to my little universe of inspiration and creation! I am a fabric addict and flea market junkie. Hence, my etsy shop offers a range of hand-made bags and home accessories, and a few clothing items, all designed and sewn by me. As I get enthusiastic about too many lovely things, you may also encounter some favourite flea market finds and a range of beautiful vintage Kantha quilts in my store. Last but not least, I offer newly made Kantha quilts and baby blankets, all ethically produced by beneficiaries of the NGO Center for Development and Peace in Bangladesh.

About

I am no expert seamstress, nor am I a trained designer. However, I have always had a slumbering passion for beautiful textiles (especially colorful ones!) which would awake every once in a while.

The key awakening happened one sunny day at the fleamarket in Old Jaffa: I stumbled upon my first Kantha quilt ever. Fascinated by these hand-stitched, layered and amazingly colourful textiles, I set out to find more of them.

My Kantha quilt (and other textile) passion, combined with some sewing skills (mainly acquired during elementary school sewing lessons), eventually led me to start my own little artisan venture, FairlyWorn.

I started out making Kantha bags and pouches, and from there my creativity evolved to embrace other types of fabrics. I got addicted to South East Asian hill tribe textiles - painstakingly hand-embroidered rainbow baby carriers and wonderful, hand-woven indigo fabric rolls. From there, I moved to gorgeous Guatemalan huipils and Mexican Otomi fabrcis. I am still discovering new, precious textiles, always trying to turn them into special bags or home accessories.

All the while, my passion for Kantha quilts hasn't waned, and I found a production partner in Bangladesh, who creates lovely quilts, baby blankets and scarves for me. My production partner is a Bangladeshi NGO that supports women in need. It helps them make a respectable living by stitching those gorgeous quilts.

Creating things has taught me a lot about myself and about the way of life I would really like to lead. It has taught me respect for material things and their scarcity, as well as appreciation for all things hand-made in our fast-paced world.

Hello and thanks for stopping by!

Fairlyworn means that I value fair production terms and use environmentally friendly and socially responsible materials and methods to create all my items. if I use new fabrics, I make an effort to buy and use only fairly produced textiles.

Most items you find in my store are made of recycled materials - old bed linen, vintage clothing, used blankets, old kantha quilts and embroidered pieces - anything used I come across and fall in love with.

I am inspired by fabrics from all around the globe, some bought at markets, some discovered on etsy, some given to me by friends. If you share my enthusiasm for creative apparel, "old stuff" and environmentally and socially responsible consumption, please be my guest at fairlyworn!

Returns and exchange details
I want you to be happy with your purchase, so items may be returned within 14 days of delivery. You will get a full refund if the item is undamaged and unused. However, I cannot refund you for shipping, and you will have to cover your own shipping costs to send the item back. If you are unhappy with the quality of your item, please let me know. I will always issue refunds and exchange items regardless of date of purchase, if it is due to problems with the quality of an item.
Payment
I accept PayPal and major credit cards, due at checkout. Cancellations are accepted if made before the item ships.

Please note that internationally shipped items may incur additional duties and taxes, which customers will have to cover themselves. I cannot take responsibility for these fees.
Shipping
Items are shipped from Portugal with CTT, the Portuguese postal services.

Due to Etsy's new policy on preferential search placement of items that ship for free, most of my items come now with free shipping.

My free shipping pricing is based on shipping costs to the United States. If you are located in Europe, talk to me and I may be able to deduct the excess shipping you pay from the item's price.

I ship all packages with registered mail. You will receive a tracking number in your shipping notification.

Orders are shipped within one to three days, unless stated otherwise in my shop announcement. If you are in a hurry to receive your package, let me know and I will do my best to ship as soon as possible!

Estimated shipping times are as follows:

Europe: 3 to 5 work days
USA, Australia and New Zealand: 5 to 7 work days

Please bear in mind that, sometimes, it takes a package a little longer to arrive than what CTT indicates!

Insurance:

If you would like to insure your order, please choose the corresponding shipping option from the dropdown menu at checkout. Insurance is a flat fee of EUR 3.

Lost or damaged packages:

If your package is insured, you will receive a full refund in case your package is lost or damaged. However, if you have chosen not to purchase insurance, I will not be able to refund you.

Combined shipping:

In the etsy system, it is quite difficult to predict the cost of shipping for more than one item (combined orders). Often, customers end up paying excess shipping fees, which I always refund. However, sometimes it happens that customers are charged too little. In this case, I reserve myself the right to ask you to cover the additional shipping cost or to cancel your order, if you don't feel like paying additional fees.

If you would like to order several items, especially heavier ones, feel free to convo me to get an exact shipping quote.

I refund shipping cost if it exceeds the actual cost by more than EUR 2.

Packaging:

I try to be environmentally responsible and re-use packaging (boxes, bubble wrap) whenever possible. I do have to buy a lot of new boxes, though!

I ship heavy Kantha quilts in recyclable plastic bags to save on weight and shipping costs.
Additional policies and FAQs
All the vintage fabrics I use are pre-washed. If you purchase a dyed item or one made of ethnic fabric, please hand-wash it separately in lukewarm water and do not let it soak for a long time. Do not wash dangles and leather handles. If an item needs special treatment, I will state so in the item's description.

Please always bear in mind that I almost exclusively work with / sell vintage textiles. These textiles cannot be expected to be like new - they often have small imperfections like small stains or holes, worn areas, fixed spots, discolorations and the like. I will always point out bigger imperfections, so you will have a clear picture of flaws that make a real difference to the product. However, I do feel that small flaws like the ones stated above are normal in this kind of textiles and will not affect the overall value and appearance of a product or a piece of textile.
