Thank you so much Dorothea! Everyone thought this baby egg was wonderful, they had never seen anything like it and the goose egg is such a nice size for the baby doll. n nMy niece was surprised to know you made that little outfit, it fits the doll perfectly! n nThank you again, your work is so beautiful. n nBest, nMyra
Waste Not, Want Not, using eggshells as ornaments
The shop itself didn't exist until about 2009 although my shop's story began in 1974 when I decided to combine my love of cooking (and discarded eggshells) with my love of painting and miniatures. Back then I was creating the ornaments to give as gifts to family and friends for Christmas and birthdays. Life became busy with being a full time wife and mother, and then busier still as a single mom returning to work. For many years I only had time to save up the cut and cleaned shells dreaming of the day I would once again create completed ornaments.
After nearly 25 years of only cutting, cleaning and saving the shells, I found myself able to begin again when a move closer to my job gave me an extra hour each day with reduced commute time. What freedom! I started with documenting the process and self publishing my photo illustrated instruction book to use for eventually teaching classes. Some of the people who saw my book began asking me to make custom ornaments and that is primarily what I do now.
With about 200 completed ornaments in holiday and seasonal themes, my next focus is to get better photographs taken of ornaments available for sale and get them into my etsy shop.
About me: I'm a self taught artist and have dabbled with a variety of media from pencil, chalks, oils, clays and acrylics. I love working with miniatures and natural materials; combining them into ornaments is currently my favorite art form.
Making ornaments using eggshells from baking or breakfast gives me a sense of satisfaction I think other people who enjoy making things would understand.
Since 1973 when I first began dabbling with this art form I've saved up eggshells even when I didn't have time to make completed ornaments. My storehouse of shells is now somewhere over 100 dozen with over 200 completed ornaments on display in my studio.
I know that may not sound like much when thinking on the scale of a huge company with mass produced items, but to me it is a treasure I've been saving up for the time when I retire from my "day" job and can concentrate on doing what I love most - using my imagination to create whimsical, fanciful objects that remind me of the fairy tales that fascinated me from early childhood.
Accepted payment methods
- Money Order
Please note that personal checks require additional processing time to insure your bank clears payment to my bank (typically 10 days after deposit).
Money order payments can be handled the next business day following receipt of your payment.
(The egg is wrapped in bubble wrap, not the box .... ;-) )
Refunds and Exchanges
I wrap as well as I can with the bubble wrap but accidents sometimes happen and unfortunately I cannot be responsible for how people in between handle items in shipping.
I will do the best I can to make sure your ornament is everything you hope it will be.
Additional policies and FAQs
If you want to provide a figurine to put into an ornament I can do that as well.
