I'm a one-person shop (for now), largely self-taught. I did a few art classes in undergrad, among them an intro to drawing class and an intro to watercolor class, both of which actually turned me off to their respective mediums for awhile. But I found my way back, slowly but surely, and about a year ago (almost a decade after those classes) I was drawn to the bright color and luminosity of watercolor painting in particular. I like the ease of set-up and the way it behaves on the page, in sometimes surprising or unexpected ways. So I pulled out those 10-year-old watercolor tubes (which were surprisingly vibrant given their age) and started painting again, this time the subject matter that I wanted to do instead of what a teacher told me to paint. It turned out to be mostly flowers at first, which branched out into landscapes and buildings. I bought a coffee table book of flowers at a used bookstore, and in the course of the conversation with the cashier I mentioned that I was going to use the photos as reference material for my own paintings. She said that her daughter made a living selling her drawings and paintings on Etsy and I thought, if others can make a living this way, maybe I can put some of my own work out there for consideration. (And in case you're wondering, I have since bought new paints!)
