Uniquely textured Ceramic Ornaments, Wall Hanging Art, ring, soap, snack or anything dishes, hangable tiles and more!
Most of my ceramic work is one of a kind, All completely handmade - by me - from my clay pounding table, to my hand carving bench, hand glazing table and faithful little ceramic kiln. My aim is to make each piece lovely to behold, but delightful to touch, as well!
The process begins in my garden...
With my grandmother’s rolling pin, I combine my original hand-carvings or my favorite fresh garden cuttings with fine white clay to create an indoor garden impression. Then I cut out each piece by eye, form by hand, and set aside for a long, slow drying process. Once 'bone dry', I carefully sand the edges before loading into the kiln for the first 24 hour firing, completing the first few weeks of my 4 to 6 week process.
Once cooled, the real work begins...
By hand, I apply layer after layer of watercolor-like ceramic glazes. Glazing this way is time consuming. But hand application of a multitude of colors this lets me mimic garden favorites in my own watercolor style. Glazing by hand at this point, when the clay is it's thirstiest is tricky, too, but it allows me to preserve every little twist and turn of the hand-carved textures and the subtle, intricate veining of each real petal and leaf.
I'm self taught, so I won't in good conscience give you some 'flowery' worded theory of my work. Truth is, I began creating my ceramic-watercolors so I would always have a gift for my garden & flower loving Mom, that would make her smile each time she saw or held them, winter, spring, summer or fall.

5 out of 5 starsAll of the ceramic pieces arrived so well packed. I love this piece with the tractor charm and the scene. It works so well in my kitchen together with the Wall plate of the town. The scene of vintage homes in the town reminds me of my hometowns of Sausalito, Ca and Petaluma, CA. Lovely experience with the sweet owner and enjoying her talents.

5 out of 5 starsAmazing craftmanship. I bought for a friends' birthday: She is both an artist and gardner...so a 'tough room' to get a gift for...she was so happy and wore it the day it arrived! Thanks.

Large wall hanging Ceramic-Watercolors take the most time to make, but the reward is terrific! Clay is rolled out...
-
Fresh flowers & foliage added, pressed together with my grandmother's rolling pin to create a fossil-like impression...
-
...shaping your, your Mom's, or your Grandmother's favorite blossoms into a one-of-a-kind keepsake, then drying slowly.
-
After drying, sanding & bisque firing, each piece is glazed by hand w/many layers of newly mixed watercolor-like glazes!
-
Once glazed, each wall sculpture is kiln fired again & prepared for easy hanging, completing a 6 week creation process!
I carve or press perennial favorites into fine white clay, shape, fire & glaze w/my own watercolor techniques, to make fine gifts for your home!

I'm a mostly self-taught watercolorist & potter from Appleton, WI. Time & time again I heard that the look of fine watercolor on ceramic clay is too time consuming and difficult to achieve effectively. Twenty years later, I'm still trying :)
