About

How FamilyMotto was born

When our first baby became a toddler, we quickly saw the need to create a nature table in our home -- a designated place indoors for him to put the treasures that he found outside. A bowl of acorns and some interesting leaves were among the first items on the nature table and I realized this sweet little area of discovery needed a name. I chose the word FOUND and made a banner out of old sewing scraps to hang there. We immediately noticed how much that word influenced our desire to go outside and find more fascinating items. It was then I decided we could have many rotating family mottos for our home -- special ones to help us frame our holidays the way we intend to, and others to bring certain values into light and consciousness. Now we have over a dozen family motto banners that we rotate monthly, guiding us through our days. GRACE helps us hold the month of November as a time of gratitude and MAKE reminds us that the very best holiday gifts are handmade and homemade during December. In March, when the grey, rainy skies are really getting to us, we put up our TRUST banner and are reminded all month long that sunny days will return again. During JULY, our family motto is: FREE -- we play all day every day in the sunshine and get as dirty as we want.
What is your FamilyMotto? Can you say it in one word? Please see the Customized One-Word Banner page for LOTS of ideas for inspiring words to hang in your home.
