strawberry earrings, one of the first items I learned how to make
Japan, where I spent four years for work and study

I want to make something with my own two hands

At 16, I came across a book on beading at a local Japanese bookstore. Without having any tools or supplies, and without knowing how to read Japanese at the time, I bought the book.

With a lot of patience, I figured out what materials I needed, and luckily even without knowing the language, I could figure out the diagrams. From that book I learned the basics of beading, and from there I just started to make whatever I wanted to make.

A lot of my inspiration comes from my interest in Japanese culture. It is a country that I loved ever since I was young, a country that I was fortunate enough to have lived in for a few years. Japan has a very special place in my heart, and my experience with the country continues to shape both myself and my aesthetic.

I make an item, package it, and send it off to an address, to someone, to somewhere. Once in a while a customer would message me to let me know they are enjoying their purchase, or share a story with me about why they made the purchase. It is then that it starts sinking in, that there are people all over the world wearing what I've made, and I am so grateful to every one of those people.

The thought that something I made with my own two hands can contribute to someone else's happiness, no matter how little, is truly amazing.
