FarmGirlArts' Shop Announcement

** NEEDLE FELTING WOOL: I am washing and carding my wool myself thanks to a grant from North Carolina State University's AgVentures Fund. It is the best wool for core felting as it is a short fiber that locks together very tightly when needle felted. Give it a try today. It's also great for ballet dancers who dance on pointe!

Pet Portraits and Other Animals Sculpted in Homegrown Wool.

My work celebrates the lives of animals (wildlife, barn yard, companion animals). A finished sculpture represents a relationship of love, respect and gratitude between human and animal; for me, the maker, and for those who commission or purchase the pieces.

When I begin a companion animal commission, I enjoy hearing about the animal: its personality, habits, activities and special physical characteristics. But what really motivates me is the love and caring that the person expresses in their description of their pet. When I sculpt, my intention is to communicate that love and the relationship in the finished piece.

Occasionally, I have the opportunity to sculpt an animal I choose, like the Elephant, Black Bear and Deer in my portfolio. These are animals I admire and with whom I feel a connection.

My own love of nature and all animals is part of the energy involved in the transformation of wool into portrait, from the care of my sheep and preparation of the wool to the needle felting process.

In addition, I keep Icelandic Sheep for their wool and for fun. They have great personalities (even the ones that are annoying) and lovely wool for spinning!

Thanks for stopping in for a visit. Come back again soon.
