About

Favor Jewelry

THE BRAND | Favor is composed of thoughtfully designed jewelry that will be relevant and beautiful for years to come. The details are as important as the object, from the care that we put into making the perfect curve, to our high quality materials that feel better and last longer. The collections and individual pieces are designed to complement one another. Their simplicity and clean lines mean they can be added to an existing wardrobe easily, stand on their own as a thoughtfully chosen piece, or collected and added to over the years. Regardless of how our pieces are styled, Favor is made to be worn and loved.

OUR PROCESS | We fabricate all of our jewelry by hand in our Portland, Oregon, studio using small-scale metalsmithing techniques. This means every piece is hand cut, shaped, soldered, polished, and assembled by one of our lovely makers. It also means that we know exactly what materials are used and how they are used. We recycle 100% of our scrap metal, and we use non-toxic chemicals, and our old tools are donated to a local arts charity. Even the little zip top baggies we send your necklaces in are biodegradable!

Sometimes I am overwhelmed by choices, especially when I am trying to shop responsibly and sustainably. It can be difficult to know what you're buying and who you're supporting. I take this seriously and try my best to be a responsible designer and business-owner. We use gold fill because it has the longevity of 14k gold, without the environmental harm associated from mining new gold. We use 100% recycled silver and brass for the same reason. We don't plate our metals because that process produces toxic chemicals that are impossible to dispose of safely. We choose our stones thoughtfully and often select lab-grown and responsibly-mined gems, so you can know the end result of your dollar is supporting sustainability. We fabricate by hand and in our studio because we can employ local makers and ensure a great product by producing all of our pieces on at a time, in the same location, by the same set of hands.

Yes, this takes longer. Yes, it is more work. But we believe we are creating more good than harm by working this way. And the jewelry is really pretty.

Frequently asked questions
What is gold fill?

Gold fill is made by heat and pressure-bonding a layer of 14k gold to a brass core. This process is extremely strong and will last decades and even centuries if taken care of properly. Gold is naturally very soft, so bonding it to brass adds strength to our designs. The wonderful thing about this process is that everything you see and touch is 14k gold and always will be, so you don't have to worry about flaking, tarnishing, allergies, or turning your skin green! It also helps use less gold, which decreases the demand for new mines (a bonus for the world!) and decreases the cost.

How do I clean my jewelry?

Gold fill: Gold fill is naturally tarnish resistant; however it can get dirty or smudged. To keep your gold shiny and glowing, wipe it with a soft cloth. Gold doesn't normally tarnish unless it's around harsh chemicals. In case that happens, use a jeweler's polishing cloth to wipe it off. The biggest threats to gold fill are abrasives. So avoid scratching the surface with harsh polishers.

Silver: Natural silver does darken with time which can be very beautiful. But if you prefer your silver bright and shiny (as we do!) you can use a polishing cloth to gently buff it clean. If you're in a pinch, a bit of baking soda and a soft cloth will also work. Lucky for us, wearing silver jewelry often actually slows down the rate of tarnish!

I ordered the wrong ring size! Can I exchange it?

Absolutely! Email us at hello@favorjewelry.com to let us know. If you need help determining your ring size, please use the sizing chart at: http://favorjewelry.com/ringsize/

How is the jewelry packaged and shipped?

Jewelry is shipped in post-consumer recycled jewelry boxes, tied with a bow. We do not ship an invoice or a receipt on domestic orders to save paper. The jewelry is sent in a post-consumer recycled bubble mailer small enough to fit in most mailboxes and through most mail slots. If it is a gift, leave a note when you checkout and we can include a message from you.

Do you offer wholesale?
