About

Felt with two F's

I know you're asking yourself 'Why is ffelt spelled funny?' Well, I'll tell you. I moved to Lancaster PA from my hometown in Wales in 2014. I had two suitcases; one full of clothes, the other mostly filled with my felting stash. I started experimenting in 2010 and can't think of a time that I ever stopped since. Once I'd moved in with my husband I offered to volunteer at the alpaca farm down the road. Mostly for something to do until I found work but of course I fell in love with the alpacas instantly. Over the years I became good friends with the alpacas and the farm owner, Donna. While I poop scooped and helped with training she shared everything she knew about alpacas and how to process their amazing fiber by hand. Donna and her alpacas fueled my passion for felting, I was definitely hooked now. While the felting experiments and alpaca snuggling continued our nephew came into the world. I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this soft, luxurious fiber. I made my first pair of seamless wet felted bunny slippers to keep his tiny toes cozy. The cuteness virus spread quickly and I soon found myself taking orders. So I needed a name. It had to be Welsh, obviously. But also, translatable in the States. I cheated; in the Welsh alphabet f is ff, so I made a new word and I still haven't stopped felting since!

Thanks for visiting ffelt! If you've found something you love and you're thinking about purchasing an item or requesting custom work, here's what you might like to know.

Felting is a long and repetitive process and turnaround times can vary during busier times, current turnaround time will be shown in the item's description.

Custom orders rock my world! I love to create unique and meaningful pieces. If you have something special in mind send me a message and we'll dream something up together. Visit the 'custom made' section of my store to find out more.

Adult sized slippers are available on request, please see the custom made section for more details.

I will not create a version of a trademarked character, i.e Mickey Mouse. All designs are original and my own.

If you'd like to get to know the alpacas better you can check out my etsy updates and follow ffelt_handmade on instagram.

Frequently asked questions
Custom and personalized orders

Custom and personalized items are always welcome!

Care instructions

Spot clean with damp cloth.

Do not machine wash, wash in hot water or tumble dry as this will cause the item to shrink.

Do not use bleach as this could perish the fine fiber.

To protect your fine fibers from moths without the use of chemicals, add a few drops of lavender or cedarwood essential oil to a spray bottle and top up with water. The occasional spray will repel fiber eating moths and make your items smell sweet.

Do you kill alpacas for their fiber?

Absolutely not! Alpacas are sheared annually before the hot summer months. I know the alpacas and their owners at gray stone ridge well and can vouch for the wonderful love and care they receive. If you'd like to find out more about the alpacas you can follow ffelt and graystone ridge on instagram for your daily cuteness fix.

Wholesale availability

Due to the amount of time it takes to felt fibers well and the custom nature of my items I am not able to offer wholesale orders.
