Once upon a time I was given a flower loom... that was a long time ago now, when I was that child who is always making something.
All those years ago I made a few woolly flowers and then stored my flower loom away with my stash of crafty tools. Fast forward quite a lot of years and I was trying out various techniques to make flower brooches with button centres. But they weren't quite right, and as I looked at them I was reminded of my old flower loom.
So I dug it out and started playing around until I came up with a flower that was just 'right', a flower which cried out to be made into a 'proper' flower with a stem. And so ffflowers were born.
I finish each handmade flower with a different button centre and securely stitch it to a green fabric wrapped stem - the weight of the flower head gives the stem a nice natural curve when they are displayed in a vase - perfect!

Just like real flowers, ffflowers sometimes get a little crushed or droopy, especially if they have been packed away for storage. They can usually be revived by spinning the stem between finger and thumb so that the petals fluff out. For ffflowers made from the hand-dyed cotton/rayon ribbon you can also try spinning them upside down - for a few seconds only - above the steam from a pan or kettle. Do not get too close to the steam and don't burn your fingers!
