Announcement   August 2016: check out my new website, designed by me from html and css scratch! www.dirtndye.com/fiber/index.html. If you want to see more web and logo design work visit www.dirtndye.com/ardesign3/index.html.

MAY 2016: NEW WORK ADDED!
All felted pieces are based on leaves and flowers found in nature. I am always examining the world around me for new and inspiring specimens. I begin the crafting process by wet felting pre-dyed sheep's wool in flat sheets. Sometimes silk fiber is also included for added dimension. Petals and leaves are then free-motion embroidered and cut out and then hand beaded. Once each piece is fully constructed a pin backing is securely glued or sewn to the back. Some pieces can be made into either a brooch or a hair comb/barrette at your request.

These shibori scarves are the result of a time-consuming, multi-faceted process. The texture and coloring are achieved by my own variation on the traditional Japanese arashi technique. Fabric is dyed & manipulated by folding, tying, stitching, and/or compressing, then re-dyed, and finally steamed to permanently set the color and pleats. Although the equipment and dyes have evolved, the basic techniques have been used for almost 3000 years.

Additional policies and FAQs
I may have pieces available for consignment. If you have a store and are interested in carrying my work, please contact me for information.

All items are crafted in a smoke free environment. However, I have three cats, and dander may be present.

Felt items have a tendency to develop some curl to the leaves or petals- Often times this adds to the charm of the piece, but if it is undesirable you may press the backs of individual parts with a hot iron.

Shibori silk should be stored on a horizontal surface, rather than hung if you want to maintain the texture that was steamed into the silk when the dye was fixed. The acid dyes are color fast. Dry clean if you wish to retain the texture. If the scarf is submersed in water it will weaken the pleats.

If you have any additional concerns, please feel free to contact me.
